    Description Summary


    As an integral part of the Community, Access, Retention, and Empowerment (CARE) team, the Early Student Engagement Specialist collaborates with the Senior Community Engagement Liaison to develop interactive community outreach and engagement events.

    Coordinates programs and activities on and off campus to broaden the pool of college-ready students aware of the career opportunities and paths to degrees in the College of Engineering and the Knowlton School of Architecture.

    Partners with CARE staff, and College of Engineering faculty and student organizations to create engaging hands-on activities or design projects to excite and motivate students to pursue a career in engineering, architecture and planning.

    Supports Senior Community Engagement Liaison with planning and logistics for National Engineers Week, CARE-connected outreach events, summer camps, and school visits.

    Fosters and builds relationships with student organizations to promote outreach engagement opportunities.

    Works in collaboration with CARE staff, engineering and architecture student organizations and industry partners to develop and coordinate campus community outreach programming for pre-enrolled students focused on districts where Ohio State campuses are located and districts with limited access to STEM professionals and resources.

    Responsible for the collection of data for all COE and KSA community events. Conducts volunteer training. Collaborates with CARE staff to create program summary reports. Assists and supports other CARE initiatives and programs, as needed.

    May be required to work occasional evenings, weekends and travel.

    The position involves significant interaction with other people - including students, staff, faculty, and the public - remote or hybrid schedule is limited.


    Minimum Education Required:
    Bachelor's Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

    Required Qualifications


    • Bachelor's degree in education and/or STEM related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • 2 years' experience planning and implementing student academic programs and/or events
    • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills experience in MS Office required, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
    • Proficient using systems such as Canva, Qualtics, etc.
    • Ability to pay attention to detail and accurate identify errors or corrections
    • Demonstrates ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality
    • Ability to function with minimal supervision in a team-based environment
    • Ability to work well with individuals from diverse backgrounds
    • Creativity and problem solving skills
    • Computer and word processing skills
    • Comfortable presenting in-person and virtually

    • Experience in higher education outreach, recruitment, or student services Knowledge of higher education administration
    • Experience in working with volunteers and/or student organizations
    Duty Description


    60% - Collaborates with the Senior Community Engagement Liaison to develop interactive community outreach and engagement events; coordinates programs and activities on and off campus to broaden the pool of college-ready students aware of the career opportunities and paths to degrees in the College of Engineering and the Knowlton School of Architecture; work in collaboration with CARE staff, engineering and architecture student organizations and industry partners to develop and coordinate campus community outreach programming for pre-enrolled students focused on districts where Ohio State campuses are located and districts with limited resources; responsible for the collection of data for all COE and KSA community events; supports Senior Community Engagement Liaison with planning and logistics for National Engineers Week, CARE-connected outreach events, summer camps, and school visits.


    25% - foster and build relationships with student organizations to promote outreach engagement opportunities; partners with CARE staff, and College of Engineering faculty and student organizations to create engaging hands-on activities or design projects to excite and motivate students to pursue a career in engineering, architecture and planning.


    15% -responsible for the collection of data for all COE and KSA community events; conducts volunteer training; collaborates with CARE staff to create program summary reports; assists and supports other CARE initiatives and programs, as needed.
