    Summary


    The College of Technology, Architecture and Applied Engineering's (CTAAE) - School of the Built Environment (SBE) at Bowling Green State University (BGSU) is seeking a full-time, renewable Qualified Rank Assistant Teaching Professor (non-tenure-track) for the Architecture and Environmental Design program.

    Today, with the Architectural profession still lacking significant diversity, the BGSU Architecture and Environmental Design Department has a central goal of supporting an equitable and inclusive culture within the Department and the School, and, through these efforts, supporting a more inclusive profession.

    We are currently seeking an individual to bring professional experience in the field of equity and inclusion to support this goal.


    The Architecture and Environmental Design Department is seeking an exceptional individual who can work within the department to help develop an equitable and inclusive culture, and bring and apply knowledge from the field of social equity and belonging to support best practices in the Department and the School.

    The individual will focus on spearheading, coordinating, and supporting efforts relative to social equity and inclusion at the Program, Department, and School-level.

    In addition, the individual will teach undergraduate courses in architecture in one or more areas of (depending on expertise): Design Fundamentals; Design Communication; Architecture Design Studios; Architecture Theory; Computer Aided Design; Environmental Systems; Sustainability.


    This individual will work to:
    1) design and implement outreach activities throughout the Department and School;

    2) promote a sense of belonging throughout the Department and School, and;

    3) work with internal and external partners to develop tools, resources and a range of solutions to grow

    this culture.


    The individual will work with the Architecture community to implement best practices that strengthen inclusion around race, gender, disabilities, sexuality, nationality, social class, and religion, with a particular focus on students, staff, and faculty.

    Will work closely with the School Director on priorities and implementation.

    The individual in this position must be prepared to assist in creating policy, identify resources needed, and be responsible for implementing the actions resulting from policy within the Department and School.

    The expected start date is August 12, 2024.


    Housed within the College of Technology, Architecture and Applied Engineering, the School of the Built Environment offers a transformative experience for students who seek to engage in design-build innovation, and the creation of exemplary places, structures, and systems with the goal of shaping the future of our built environment.

    The SBE is comprised of the Department of Architecture and Environmental Design and the Department of Construction Management, two units with established histories, collaborations, and synergies.

    Our program remains distinct because we require two (2) paid co-op experiences, which typically transition into full-time job opportunities upon graduation.

    The Architecture and Environmental Design program enrolls over 250 students and offers the following degrees:

    Bachelor of Science in Architecture
    Masters of Architecture (NAAB Accredited)

    Essential Functions

    Teach undergraduate courses in the Bachelor of Science in Architecture degree program and

    participate in undergraduate curriculum development.

    Mentor undergraduate
    Perform service to the school, college, and university.

    In addition, the successful candidate will have the skills to initiate and coordinate the following responsibilities:

    • Design and implement outreach activities to attract, retain, and support the success of an inclusive population, with a focus on undergraduate and graduate students. This includes developing activities to attract first-year BGSU architecture major students and recruitment strategies to encourage graduate students to apply.
    • Develop, implement, and lead programs and initiatives that sustain social equity and respect and advance and support BGSU's commitment to workplace inclusivity, as well as enhancing belonging across the Department and the School.
    • Provide consultation and advice to School and College leadership on current nondiscriminatory best practices and regulations.
    • Collaborate with the Chief Diversity and Belonging Officer (BGSU Division of Diversity and Belonging) on social equity and inclusive efforts for the School.
    • Organize events and group activities to increase a sense of community and belonging within the School.
    • Support and mentor minorityrelated student organizations – National Organization of Minority Architecture Students, Purple Hard Hats in the School.
    • Other duties as needed, required or assigned.
    Minimum Qualifications

    At least a Master of Architecture degree (NAAB accredited).
    At least one year of architecture-related professional experience in the United States.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Demonstrated track record of leading diversity and inclusion efforts in higher education and

    commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion; understanding of social justice, the dynamics of power and privilege and social identities.

    2) Demonstrated promise for teaching architectural design studios and other courses that critically and

    productively engage computational and digital design techniques, and in their own creative work.

    3) Experience with cross-disciplinary teaching and service efforts in architecture and construction

    management.

    4) Licensure as a registered architect.

    5) Knowledge of digital software applications in architecture (AutoCAD, Revit, BIM, etc.).
