- OPERATOR I (COLLECTION)
Under general supervision or direction, the Operator I (Collection) is responsible for the overall operation of the wastewater collections system, which includes the repair and maintenance of the sewer collection system and pump stations.
- OPERATOR II (COLLECTION)
Under general direction, supervises the operation of the Collections System of the Wastewater Treatment Plant on a designated shift to ensure processing and discharge of wastewater which complies with performance standards of State regulatory agencies; perform any combination of tasks involved with inspection, construction, repair, and preventive, corrective and emergency maintenance of sanitary personnel; prepares logs and other records; performs maintenance tasks as required and other related duties as required.
- Essential duties require the following physical abilities and work environment.
- Must possess sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in standard wastewater treatment plant and related facilities: strength, stamina and mobility to perform medium to heavy physical work and to work in confined spaces; inspect various commercial sites, including traversing uneven terrain, climbing ladders, stairs and other access points; attend meetings and operate a motor vehicle; vision to read printed materials, a computer screen and make inspections; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone.
- Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment.
- Positions in this classification require one to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, climb, and stand for long periods of time.
- Employees must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects necessary to perform job functions.
- Must be able to adapt and work day, swing or graveyard shift.
- Environmental FactorsEmployees work primarily in the field and are exposed to noise, dust, pollen, grease, smoke, fumes, chemicals, noxious odors, gases, heat, and cold in confined workspaces and in all types of weather conditions. Employees may interact with upset staff, public and private representatives, and contractors in interpreting and enforcing regulations and departmental policies and procedures.
- OPERATOR I (COLLECTION)
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Performs operation and maintenance on sanitary sewer pump station.Responds to service requests regarding clogged mainline stoppages, mainline breaks, manholes and related structures.Performs mechanical work in repairing and installing equipment.Operates compressor, air gun tamper, backhoe and other related construction tools.May undertake minor carpentry, plumbing, cement work and electrical.Performs general grounds maintenance work, sweeping, sanding, painting.Maintains routine and daily records.
- OPERATOR II (COLLECTION)
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:Lead a crew in the safe performance of preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance of sanitary sewersRespond to service requests, unclog mainline stoppages, and keep records on sewer line cleanings and state of existing problems within the Collections SystemRepair mainline breaks, replace broken pipe and reconnect pipe sectionsOperate power rodder, jet truck, backhoe and TV equipmentConduct periodic inspections and perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to wastewater pumping stations and equipmentKeep daily logs and records on equipment; makes reports to the supervisorProvide technical assistance and prescribe work methods and safety procedures to maintenance workers and utility workersInspect installation of new sewer lines, laterals and related structures; may study blueprints and specifications preparatory to inspection of construction projectSupervises the work of all operating personnel assigned to shift; trains and evaluates performance of shift employees, enforces safety procedures in conformance with policy of plant's safety program. -

DEFINITION
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION REQUIREMENTS
For the Collections System, ability to locate, detect cause, and correct sewer stoppages; detect and perform minor repairs and adjustments to sewer equipment; maintain pumps and related mechanical equipment; and report to work at any time during an emergency. Perform electrical and mechanical repairs, maintenance work and modification to equipment used in a water quality control plant; use various mechanic's tools with skill and accuracy; available for standby on sewer calls on a rotation basis; follow oral and written directions; maintain working relationships with other employees.
