    Indiana University School of Medicine, Department of Medicine, a national leader in clinical care, education, and research, is announcing the search for a Division Chief of Hematology/Oncology.

    The Division is poised for transformative growth in research, education, and clinical care.

    This position is ideal for a collaborative and transformational leader who can build on existing strengths within the Division, and the vision to develop new collaborations.

    The successful candidate will have a strong background in academic leadership across the tripartite clinical, education, and research missions.

    Additional qualifications include a national reputation in Hematology/Oncology, a record of scholarship in the discipline, and documented success of leading interdisciplinary initiatives.

    The Division of Hematology/Oncology focuses on providing innovative and compassionate patient-centered care.

    With a long history of nationally recognized physicians, the Division hosts many well-established basic science, translational and clinical research programs that help lead the mission of the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center, an NCI designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.

    Working in conjunction with outstanding colleagues from other surgical, medical, and radiation oncology specialties, the division has developed multiple interdisciplinary clinical sites to serve patients.

    Translational research is ongoing in many laboratories developing novel agents and strategies to address clinically relevant issues, with the goal of impacting patient care and disease management.

    A group of internationally recognized faculty leads the basic science research programs within the Division.


    The Division Chief reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Medicine and is responsible for the leading direction of the Division of Hematology Oncology.


    Additionally, the Division Chief will:

    • Shape the future of the Division by working with faculty and staff to develop and articulate the divisional and vision and goals;
    • Develop and enact a plan for divisional expansion and program growth;
    • Ensure the delivery of high-quality training and support faculty teaching enhancement;
    • Maintain a high-quality academic environment and provide support for faculty research;
    • Formulate and communicate recommendations for hiring, tenure, promotion, and retention of a diverse set of faculty and divisional staff;
    • Facilitate growth of the fellowship programs;
    • Develop innovative collaborations across existing divisions, departments, centers and institutes;
    • Maintain a divisional climate that is welcoming, diverse, and inclusive and encourages faculty and staff engagement, participation, collegiality, and innovation;
    • Explore the future growth and development of academic/community partnerships in the Midwest region.

    Basic Qualifications


    Minimum qualifications include a Doctorate or Terminal degree, evidence of leadership and outstanding academic credentials such as a track record of extramural research funding, academic experience appropriate for the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, and eligibility for licensure and practice in the State of Indiana, if MD.


    Excellent institutional resources will be committed to the next division leader to strategically grow the divisional clinical, research, and educational programs.

    • Interest and experience in collaborative community engagement;
    • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion;
    • Academic credentials commensurate with appointment at the rank of associate or full professor.
