Description
Role Overview:
- Administer comprehensive environmental health and safety programs for Northwestern University's academic and research communities.
- Oversee safety compliance of research laboratories by inspecting assigned research spaces, providing follow-up assistance, and preparing summary reports.
Responsibilities:
- Perform risk assessments, hazard analysis, safety audits, and promote safe work practices.
- Collaborate with principal investigators, researchers, and administrators to develop safety policies and strategies.
- Be a specialist for the laboratory safety group on the Evanston campus.
- Support laboratory emergencies, incident investigations, and other safety services.
Job Requirements:
- Carry a cell phone and pager during work hours, and be capable of hazardous materials response.
- Physically able to lift 50 pounds, wear chemical protective equipment, and pass a pre-employment physical evaluation.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field.
- 2+ years of experience in research laboratories or safety.
Key Skills:
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated problem-solving, time management, and project management skills.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field.
- 4+ years of experience in a research laboratory or safety profession.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety and biological practices.
