Job Posting Information Posting Number PG193884SP Internal Recruitment No Working Title Dairy Farm Technician Anticipated Hiring Range $39,788 Work Schedule 5 Day/Week, shift & weekend work likely Job Location Raleigh, NC Department Dairy And Process Applications About the Department The Dairy Enterprise System is a commodity-based operational unit consisting of the Dairy Education Unit (part of the Lake Wheeler university farm system), the Department of Food Science Dairy Processing Plant and university retail operations that are dairy product-based. The individual units have the purposes of Teaching, Research, Extension, and the production of high quality dairy products to the university, state hospitals and correctional facilities meeting mandatory nutritional requirements at system-wide cost savings. Retail business units are in operation or planned that are part of FBNS Dept., the university dining system or a joint operation. Essential Job Duties The Dairy Farm Research Technician has the responsibility of assisting in the operation of the 300 acre Lake Wheeler dairy farm complex including but not limited to the operations of milking, feed, pasture management, facility and equipment maintenance and upkeep, regulatory compliance, wastewater management and representing the university in a professional manner with veterinarians, animal and crop faculty, dairy industry representatives, suppliers, and other agricultural colleagues.

The Lake Wheeler Dairy Farm represents a "real-world" research and teaching laboratory of over 350 total dairy animals that must be maintained in the manner of a conventional dairy farm yet operated as a teaching and research unit within the university atmosphere where atypical activities that tend to disrupt work and promote inefficiency of operations are satisfied and even welcomed as the prime mission of the facility. Dairy farm or large agricultural animal experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in dairy farm management.

Experience with large agricultural animals

Required License or Certification

A valid North Carolina driver's license is required to be obtained and maintained within 60 days of hire date.
