    STARTING SALARY RANGE:
    $83,000 – $93,000/annually


    LOCATION:
    In office; Albuquerque, NM

    Position Summary:


    The Director of Marketing and Communications reports to the Native Forward Chief Executive Officer and is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all of Native Forward's external communications and public relations.

    The Director develops, directs, and implements Native Forward's overall Comprehensive Marketing Plan (CMP) encompassing marketing, advertising, promotional and communications activities of the organization, and develops a major communications strategy to support Native Forward's fundraising and sustainability plan, scholarships, and scholar support programs.

    Manage and oversight of marketing team outcomes by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.

    Design, implement, and direct a Comprehensive Marketing Plan and Budget that aligns with Native Forward's Strategic Plan and Development Plan, to achieve organizational goals, build long-term relationships with constituents, and strengthen brand authority.

    Responsible for keeping self and colleagues abreast of new technologies and principles by conducting research and professional development engagement; seminars, educational workshops, classes, and conferences; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; participating in professional societies; and conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations.

    Serve as a liaison between Native Forward and the media and collaborators, as needed. Ensure productive relations with media, industry executives, and government and tribal officials

    Serve as liaison between Native Forward and national, and regional American Indian organizations, creating communications strategies, products, and services for development and donor relations.

    Participate in the development of key analytics to be assessed by Native Forward regarding impact – economic, social, personal, and cultural – to promote the effectiveness and strengths of Native Forward programs.

    Oversee the design, production, and distribution of external communications. This may include but is not limited to

    The America Indian Graduate

    magazine, Native Forward's annual report, newsletter, and alumni news, or other media as defined by the CMP.

    Oversee corporate communications activities including external communications and systems, internal communications and systems, public relations efforts, social media, and other web-based programs.

    Oversee the design and development of Native Forward marketing and collateral materials, to foster branding and effective communication of Native Forward programs to current and potential supporters and collaborators.

    Oversee the design of marketing materials for outreach, including press releases, PSAs, and digital materials.
    Serves on select boards and advisory committees to increase visibility, advocacy, networking, and fundraising for Native Forward.
    Maintains strict student confidentiality and compliance with the Family Education Right to Privacy Act.

    Embodies Native Forward Core Values and promotes the Native Forward organization, staff, and programs, in a positive and professional manner.

    Contributes to a team effort and accomplishing related results.
    Perform other duties as required.

    Minimum Qualifications:


    Master's Degree in a related field required, plus 10 years experience in marketing, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Experience five years in a supervisory capacity. Experience with and knowledge of the Raiser's Edge Donor Management software is a plus.
    A valid driver's license is required. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.

    Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications:
    Knowledge of American Indian History, culture, and tribes.
    Knowledge of the principles and practices of resource development, public relations, promotions, and marketing within a fundraising environment. Ability to stay current with trends in philanthropy and current Indian Affairs events.
    Knowledge of a variety of fundraising strategies and methods.
    Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment
    Knowledge of computer utilization in marketing/business operations.
    Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic arithmetic.
    Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.

    Ability to communicate, effectively, in the English language, both verbally and in writing, with staff, donors, potential corporate, tribal, and high net-worth donors, and the general public.

    Ability to conduct presentations to the staff and any other audiences, in a professional appearance and manner.
    Ability to utilize fundraising software to identify, track, cultivate, and communicate with donors and potential donors. Able to report results efficiently and accurately to Executive Team and Board.
    Proven ability to secure gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other private sources.

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables, in situations where only limited standardization exists.

    Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

    Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with coworkers, at all levels.

    Ability to represent the Native Forward in a professional manner, building respect and confidence.
    Ability to maintain confidentiality.
    Ability to demonstrate the highest standards of ethics in the cultivation and stewardship of donor funds.
    Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
    Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
    Ability to make solid decisions and exercise independent judgment.
    Ability to analyze situations and adopt appropriate courses of action.
    Ability to demonstrate excellence in everything and continually seek improvement in results.
    Skilled in providing leadership to, supervising, training, and evaluating assigned staff.

    Skills in operating business computers and office machines, including various software applications, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and presentation software (such as PowerPoint).


    Physical Demands:


    While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.

    The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee, occasionally, is required to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must, occasionally, lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
    Work is generally performed in an office setting, with a moderate noise level. Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required. Tight time constraints and multiple demands are common. Travel will be required for training, meetings, conferences, presentations, and other events.
