- Compound and prepare medications from physician orders for oral, intravenous, suppository and topical administration.
- Fill and deliver medication cassettes.
- Inventory management including recalls.
- Answer phone calls.
- Printing labels for missing medications.
- Ordering medications for SVH clinics.
- Responsible for deliveries of medications throughout the hospital and outlying areas.
- Assist in the training of pharmacy assistants, interns, and students.
- Perform documentation functions in designated areas of the pharmacy.
- Assist in the preparation and documentation of the process improvement program.
- Perform charging and/or billing functions.
- Perform order entry of medication orders into the pharmacy computer;
- May perform tasks related to drug acquisition and delivery such as maintaining assigned medication stations and investigating and monitoring resolution of discrepancies.
- May maintain oversight of an automated pharmaceutical distribution system including system integrity and database transactions
- Responsible for maintaining basic knowledge of current medications.
- Completes assigned competency assessments.
- Completes additional responsibilities/projects when assigned by pharmacy Director.
- Previous hospital experience with I.V. admixture, unit dose and computers preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion, with good public relations and proper patient management skills, and the ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships with fellow employees.

- Ability to communicate and work effectively with the physical and emotional demands of a diverse population.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Ability to work with Microsoft Office programs, Health Land, and McKesson systems. Requires frequent use of data entry keying into the computer.

The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for supporting the pharmacists in their duties by providing technical assistance in accordance with department policy and Washington State Law. They maintain close working communication with pharmacists and Lead Pharmacy Technician regarding the various department programs. They facilitate departmental and hospital programs being carried out in accordance with regulatory agency requirements.
Essential Job Functions:
Demonstrated ability regarding bedside manner with patients and communication skills with patients, their families and health care professionals. Skill in developing and maintaining positive interpersonal relationships with a diverse population. Ability to communicate and work effectively with the physical and emotional developments of all age groups.
Qualifications:
High school graduate or equivalent.
Basic typing ability (30 wpm).
Current license certification by the Washington State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician.
License/Certification:
Has passed the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam. Completion of a state Board of Pharmacy approved Technician Training Program
Physical and Mental Demands: Extensive walking. Lifting of moderate to heavy weights. Extensive entry (keyboarding) into computer. Ability to continually change priorities in response to changing patient needs. Ability to work in an environment of constant interruptions.
