    PURPOSE

    To service, repair, and maintain the Association's mechanical equipment. Responsible for performing all assignments independently in an efficient, safe manner, selecting the best and safest work methods to locate and correct defects and make necessary repairs. Responsible for selecting and safely using proper tools, devices, manuals, references, and the best procedures and techniques. Coordinate and corrects deficiencies on all major systems and subsystems on both light vehicles and heavy/specialized equipment.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION

    1. Perform complete preventive maintenance and repair on all heavy and light duty equipment.

    2. Receives guidance from Mechanic Working Foreman in various duties.

    3. Communicate daily with team members to ensure that all are informed about equipment status and expected outcome from next shift on maintenance items that are outstanding.

    4. Assess and respond to necessary repairs and maintenance of all fleet equipment as assigned by leadership.

    5. Maintain complete and accurate records to include collecting odometer and hour meter readings, filling out work orders, and inputting the data into the Association's CMMS or computerized maintenance management system.

    6. Provide feedback and contribute to the success and development of the Association's maintenance program as solicited by leadership.

    7. Make modifications and additions as required to upfit equipment to include electrical and fabrication type work.

    8. Verify operator concerns by means of road test, equipment operation check, and/or communicating with the operator.

    9. Repair, replace, and adjust a wide variety of braking and anti-skid systems, utilizing air, hydraulic, or electric servo mechanisms, and/or a combination thereof on systems such as drum, disc, and engine retardation.

    10. May be required to perform complete overhaul of engines, transmissions, and other major components as necessary during repair.

    11. Utilize advanced techniques and theory to isolate and correct problems in high pressure hydraulic systems used on heavy equipment, such as aerial devices, excavators, and a wide range of others.

    12. Diagnose and correct steering problems through alignment, wheel balancing, rear wheel tracking, adjustment or replacement of suspension components, or additional means as required.

    13. Use of the following tools and equipment of the shop including but not limited to vehicle lifts, presses, welding equipment, front-end aligning devices, wheel balancing equipment, hydraulic and electronic test equipment; etc.

    14. From time to time may be assigned to do inventory work for the Association.

    15. Responsible for maintaining appropriate standards and selecting appropriate tools, objects, or materials to complete each project.

    16. Promotes a safety culture in which safety is a value. This culture is based on joint and individual engagement, ownership, and accountability regarding job safety and responsibility to perform work safely and adhere to safe work practices.

    17. Performs the essential functions of the position in a safe and efficient manner.

    ESSENTIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    Qualified candidates are required to have:

    A high school diploma or equivalent.

    Three (3) years' experience in the repair and maintenance of heavy equipment and light vehicles.

    Completed post-secondary training in the repair and maintenance of heavy equipment and vehicles.

    A valid Alaska driver's license.

    A driving record, which is acceptable by the Association's Driving Policy and insurable by the Association and the Association's insurance carrier at standard group rates.

    An annual consent for release of one's driving records is also required.

    A current Medical Examiner's Certificate (MEC).

    Candidates must possess personal hand tools common to the trade and of required use by Journeyman heavy equipment mechanics.

    Preference will be given to candidates with:

    Previous electric utility equipment repair experience.

    A current condition of employment with active status at the Association.

    ASE or manufacturer certifications.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    · Knowledge of mathematical development sufficient to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, basic relevant math functions.

    · Knowledge of different gas- and diesel-powered machines, fluid types, and equipment including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

    · Working knowledge and ability to read, interpret, and utilize different schematics and technical service literature platforms to facilitate diagnostics and repair.

    · Skill in Microsoft Office suite at an intermediate level.

    · Skill in effective and professional verbal, telephonic, and written communication.

    · Skill to independently diagnose and repair equipment from heavy construction type to small portable equipment used in the electric utility industry to include welding and fabrication.

    · Ability to efficiently research, source, and procure parts, tools, and equipment in a fiscally responsible manner.

    · Ability to effectively diagnose and repair vehicles and equipment to OEM standards.

    · Ability to take responsibility for the accuracy of the work product and outcome.

    · Ability and skill necessary to achieve and hold a brake inspector qualification as defined by FMCSA and complete and signoff ANVIR or annual vehicle inspection reports per FMCSA part 396 regulations.

    · Ability to identify hazards and always conduct their job duties in a safe manner.

    · Ability to make informed judgement(s) in decisions regarding repair processes and procedures.

    · Ability to motivate and work in a team environment exhibiting a strong work ethic.

    · Ability to methodically follow instructions as communicated by leadership.

    · Ability to complete data entry, research, and diagnostic troubleshooting on computer equipment with preferred experience on both light and heavy-duty programs.

    · Ability to work safely in the workplace, promote consistent adherence to the Association's core values.

    · Ability to facilitate cooperation between work groups and work functionally across all levels of the organization.

    · Ability to self-motivate improvement based on successes and failures.

    · Ability to analyze processes for efficiency and make recommendations for improvements.
