    Position Information

    Classification Title Research Paraprofessional/Professional FLSA Non-Exempt FTE 1.00 Minimum Qualifications

    Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

    Preferred Qualifications

    2 year degree or are close to finishing their AA

    Position Summary

    The Research Assistant will have the following duties:

    • Prep purification equipment for runs
    • Order supplies
    • Perform analyses
    • Coordinate delivery of data and receive materials from client and suppliers
    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

    Knowledge of protein purification desired; excellent math and communication skills.

    Physical Demands

    Routinely lift 50 pounds and stand for periods of time

    General Lab Duties:

    • Preparation of buffers and other reagents
    • Management of laboratory chemical inventory, hazardous waste disposal, and laboratory safety and upkeep
    Percentage of time 35 Duties/Responsibilities


    • Order, stock, and inventory supplies as needed
    • Maintain a clean and sterile lab environment
    • Assist with administration duties, such as package shipping and receiving
    Percentage of time 25 Duties/Responsibilities


    • Set up ÅKTA protein chromatography systems
    • Prepare microbiology media (liquid and plates)
    • Assist with small-scale Protein expression studies, protein quantification, perform SDS/PAGE analysis of proteins
    • Opportunity to cross-train on various laboratory equipment
    Percentage of time 25 Duties/Responsibilities


    • Support duties such as washing and autoclaving glassware
    • Routine and preventative maintenance of lab equipment
    • Maintain laboratory equipment inventory list
    • Other duties as assigned
    Percentage of time 15
