The patient population on Bigelow 11 consists of high acuity, complex medical patients with a wide range of medical diagnoses, as well as concurrent psychosocial and psychiatric issues.
The complexity of care provided to our patients consists of management of symptoms, side effects or complications related to their disease or treatment.
Pain management, emotional and spiritual support, patient, and family education. Palliative care and end of life care are also part of the care we provide. The patient care delivery model is a patient-focused model, supported by relationship-based care nursing. Patient-focused care is high quality, comprehensive, accessible, supportive, and personalized.Reporting to an Associate Chief Nurse, the Nursing Director provides leadership in an environment that celebrates and empowers nurses.
In collaboration with a Clinical Nurse/Nurse Practice Specialist, the leadership dyad hires, develops and provides direction to patient care providers and unlicensed clinical support staff.
The Nursing Director partners with nurses, physicians, administrative colleagues, and other disciplines to guide and direct clinical practice, systems improvement, network development, and operations.
The Nursing Director partners with other department managers to negotiate and plan for interdepartmental resources and ensure the best level of services to direct care providers, and ultimately patients.
The Nursing Director promotes professionalism and autonomy by engaging staff in planning, decision-making and the encouraging utilization of the many educational resources available to them for further development.
