    Division: Upper School
    Reports To: Assistant Principal
    Status: Full-time, Exempt (Year-Round)
Supervises: Part-time Athletic Trainer and Assistant Athletic Director
Salary: $90,000-$100,000 + $12,000 Temporary Cost of Living Allowance and MWA Benefits

    Position Summary

Athletics is an educational endeavor, so participation in athletics at MWA should be aligned with MWA's mission, vision, and values. The goals of the athletics at MWA are to provide MWA students opportunities to participate in competitive team sports, learn valuable lessons regarding teamwork, discipline, and effort, and provide a fun and safe way to build school unity and spirit. Athletics also allows students to experience the benefits of mentorship, coaching, and appropriate and positive relationships with adults. The AD also ensures that the school's academic goals are not compromised in the pursuit of athletics. AD duties also include background checks of coaches and trainers and adhering to annual training and safety drills that support the safety of students competing and practicing for their various sports. Lastly, the AD is responsible for ensuring the MWA Upper School is in compliance with CA state law, CA Interscholastic Federation (CIF) and North Coast Section (NCS), Bay Area Conference (BAC), and Bay Counties League (BCL) rules and by-laws governing high school interscholastic athletics. These duties include being the key liaison with external constituents such as CIF and NCS officials, Athletic Directors and coaches at other schools, MWA coaches, faculty, parents, and students. The AD may also be asked to serve as part of the Principal's leadership team and supervise the athletic trainer and assistant AD.

    • Ensure all MWA student-athletes know and understand the expectations and guidelines governing participation in college athletics.
    Program Management
    • With support from the Principal and finance team, oversee and help develop resource allocation for proper management of athletic department activities, including but not limited to transportation, equipment purchases, coaches' stipends, membership fees, field and/or building rentals, and paying for referees and umpires.
    • With the support of the Human Resources Department and Talent Team, recruit and onboard coaches for various MWA teams, emphasizing identifying MWA faculty and staff as potential coaches.

    • Oversee and develop regular professional development for coaches around sports-related information and developmental and character education.
    • Supervise, provide direction to, develop, and evaluate the athletic trainer and provide some direction, training, support, and evaluation of the Assistant AD.
