The Project Manager for Dredging Operations is a pivotal role within our Heavy Civil Construction company, focusing on the specialized field of dredging in addition to overseeing site development, grading, and clearing.
This position is responsible for all administrative and technical aspects of construction projects from bid preparation through to final acceptance by the client, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet all quality and environmental standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop project objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards within the broader corporate policy framework, with a specific focus on dredging activities.
Monitor and control the construction progress of dredging and associated civil works, maintaining close communication with on-site superintendents.
Represent the company in project meetings, labor negotiations, and strategy meetings, providing insights specific to dredging operations and challenges.
Manage the financial aspects of contracts, focusing on dredging operations to safeguard the company's interests while fostering positive client relationships.
Conduct initial client assessments, determining the scope of work, resources required, and environmental impact assessments specifically for dredging projects.Prepare comprehensive project estimates that include a detailed review of proposal specifications, drawings, takeoff information, contracting requirements, and a particular focus on dredging operations and equipment.
Supervise the entire construction process, ensuring that dredging activities align with design specifications, budget constraints, and project schedules.Plan, coordinate, and oversee onsite functions such as scheduling, engineering, material control, and provide day-to-day direction to onsite administrative staff.
Provide technical assistance specific to dredging operations, including interpreting drawings, recommending construction methods, and selecting appropriate dredging equipment.Initiate and manage extra work estimating and issuance of change orders, particularly for unforeseen dredging challenges.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly supervise up to 10 supervisors overseeing crews that may include specialized dredging operators, with a total crew size of up to 100 personnel.
Requirements:
Strong knowledge of dredging operations, construction, design, finance, and project management.
Ability to apply innovative and effective management techniques within the dredging and heavy civil construction environment.
Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards, and environmental regulations specific to dredging activities.
Education and Experience:
A four-year engineering degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and related experience in dredging and heavy civil construction.
Minimum of five years of construction management, estimating, and/or craft supervision experience with a significant focus on dredging operations.
Comprehensive knowledge of dredging techniques, equipment, environmental impact mitigation, craft agreements, jurisdiction, engineering, estimating, schedules, and safety.
