- Performs analyses or calculations as assigned.
- Assist in the development of reports under the direction of a Licensed Professional.
- Ability to read and understand local/state/federal highway design manuals, special provisions, specifications, and standards.
- Construction Documents
- Produces well-organized, finished design documents of good appearance, accuracy, clarity and correctness from layouts, sketches or written instructions. Applies discipline design and detailing fundamentals in developing designs and specifications under the supervision of and subject to final approval by the Licensed Professional.
- Assist in the development of construction plans, right-of-way plans, cost estimates, bid documents and quantity takeoffs under the direction of a Licensed Professional.
- Assists Licensed Professional with the production/assembly/plotting of drawing packages and writing specifications.
- Subject to final approval of Licensed Professional, checks final drawings and submittal data for conformance with contract documents.
- Construction Support
- Assist on project site visits by taking notes, photographs and sketches.
- Subject to final approval of Licensed Professional, checks shop drawings and submittal data for conformance with contract documents.
- Assist License Professional in construction observation to monitor compliance with design intent, construction drawings and observations. Prepares field reports.
- Project Management
- Partners with technical efforts of discipline nterns, designers, and technicians assigned to the project.
- Communicates effectively with external clients in a professional manner conveying pertinent project
information as required and attends project meetings as requested. - Coordinates work with other disciplines. Performs some interdisciplinary coordination checks to
minimize deficiencies, errors and omissions in drawings and specifications.
- Profitability, Planning, and Scheduling
- Creates work plan for assigned tasks. Plan, execute, and monitor assignments, communicating status with supervisor to establish priorities.
- Meet project schedules to align with target dates for deliverables.
- Professional Development
- Desires to become registered as a PE.
- Actively participates in local professional organizations.
- Increase proficiency in using design software.
- Identify continuing education opportunities to expand professional growth and advance the collective ability of the discipline.
- Attends training provided by senior staff to improve base knowledge.
- Bachelors degree from an ABET accredited university in civil engineering preferred or other degree related to the civil engineering profession.
- 2-4 years of experience in transportation design
- Qualified to sit for the Professional Engineer Examination once required years of experience are completed.
- Understanding of the following civil software is desired:
- Microsoft Office, MicroStation CONNECT Edition, Bentley InRoads V8i SelectSeries 2 and 4, Bentley OpenRoads Designer CONNECT Edition, AutoTurn, Bentley CulvertMaster, Bentley FlowMaster, Bentley InRoads Storm & Sanitary, and Bentley OpenRoads Designer Drainage and Utilities.
