UIC is seeking two Cybersecurity Analysts to join our Technology Solutions team.

The Cybersecurity Analyst will provide guidance and resolution to security incidents and requests reported to the Security Operations Center (SOC).

This role is tightly integrated into the Information Security and Privacy Office operations and is expected to participate in fulfilling the needs of the office as assigned.

This position will also assist with information security threat hunting, active defense of university assets, incident response, and compliance using a variety of tools and techniques.

Using threat intelligence from cybersecurity news and alert feeds, the cybersecurity analyst will critically analyze logs and alerts from a variety of security-related devices and systems in our Security Information Event and Management (SIEM) to identify threats and take appropriate action to safeguard university information assets.

Responsibilities include defining, documenting, refining, and automating detection processes to ensure a consistent approach across team members.


Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Daily operational tasks include supporting the UIC IT Security program, such as assisting with incident response and investigation, threat hunting, and supporting security services (e.g. intrusion detection monitoring, network vulnerability scanning, event logging, security awareness training, etc.).
  • Contribute to and maintain knowledge base. Create technical documentation for both internal and external audiences.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required:


  • Bachelor Degree within Computer Science or closely related field of study
  • Minimum 1 years of professional IT experience within
    IS Security which includes demonstrated experience in assessing, monitoring and maintaining, and evaluating information security policies and systems, including hardware, firmware and software.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Cyber Security certifications: Network+, Security+, SANS certification, Splunk Fundamentals, IT risk assessment, NIST.
  • SIEM Experience (preferably Splunk), Network Vulnerability Scanning (Qualys), Programming/Scripting
  • Critical thinking and problemsolving skills.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical information to nontechnical audiences orally and in writing.
