They are interested in the developmental changes that occur after birth that make learning possible as well as in the circuit changes that are triggered by the process of learning. About the Lab Manager role:

The Lab Manager will hold an integral role within the lab – directing the day-to-day operations involved in running the lab and serving as the liaison between the lab and various external partners. The successful candidate for this position is a highly organized professional with impeccable follow through, outstanding communication skills, and a strong growth mindset. This is an opportunity to have a tremendous impact on science in a large, internationally recognized molecular neurobiology research laboratory by ensuring a positive and encouraging work environment that fosters a strong and cohesive team. In addition to operational management, the Lab Manager may also participate in the research efforts of the laboratory and occasionally contribute to scientific manuscripts.

The Lab Manager will be expected to work primarily on-site in the lab, but there is flexibility to work remotely 1 day/week if desired.

    What we provide:

    • A competitive compensation package with comprehensive health and welfare benefits. Salary will be commensurate with a candidate's experience, education, and skills.
    • Joining the vibrant Harvard Medical School research community.
    • Access to HHMI's on-demand training courses and interactive skill-building seminars taught by members of our learning and organization development team.
    • Opportunities for professional development and growth.
    • Opportunities to train and mentor scientists at a variety of skill levels.

    What you'll do:

    • Writing animal protocols and ensuring compliance with institutional and Federal guidelines with respect to health, lab safety, and animal care regulations.
    • Providing training and supervision in these areas and be able to command the respect of technicians and highly scientifically trained doctoral level scientists.
    • Maintenance of lab reagents (such as plasmids and antibodies), their databases, and handling requests.
    • Maintenance of equipment, infrastructure, and space allocation.
    • Onboarding of new personnel, including ensuring their training and compliance with both Harvard and Federal guidelines.
    • Liaising with vendors, ordering of supplies, maintenance of inventories, service contracts, and repairs of equipment while maintaining attention to the sources and uses of grant funds for these needs.
    • Initiation and management of orders using B2P and other methods and tracking supplies and expenditures on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
    • Handling financial activities such as monitoring budgets and communicating with Dr. Sabatini about spending levels and spending patterns.
    • Supporting lab team members with various research/experiment-related tasks.

    What you bring:

    • A bachelor's degree in a scientific field is required.
    • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience working in a research laboratory, preferably in a management capacity.
    • Previous research experience in molecular biology and/or neurobiology is required.
    • Previous experience training other people on various protocols.
    • Previous experience with mouse research is preferred.
    • Sense of self-motivation, honesty, trustworthiness, and ability to work in a diverse environment with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
    • Passion for efficiency, operational excellence, and process improvement.
    • Knowledge of standard safety regulations and appropriate laboratory practices applying to research in biology with demonstrated ability to engage others effectively in learning and applying appropriate practices.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills, adaptability, and high attention to detail.
    • Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
    • Knowledge of computers and MS Office software.
