    Strategic Labor Relations Manager: Eastern Region (Connecticut)

    Plays a crucial role in fostering positive and productive labor relations across the network. Reporting to the VP, Chief Employment Counsel & Labor Relations Director, the Strategic Labor Relations Manager is responsible for executing the systemwide labor relations strategy and managing labor relations initiatives for the region, and the covered workforce under their collective bargaining agreements. They offer both day-to-day, on-the-ground, and strategic-level advice on labor matters to the HR Business Partner team, management, and company leadership in the region. Serving as a labor relations expert for the region, they ensure the region's needs in terms of collective bargaining, contract interpretation and administration, union relationship-building, grievances, organizing responses, employee relations, and related policy work are fulfilled. The Strategic Labor Relations Manager plays a vital role in upholding established union relationships in the region. They are an essential member of the Labor Relations team and an extended team member of the AVP of Human Resources for the Region.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provides expertise in strategy development, planning, and execution of positive employee and labor relations initiatives.
    • Executes initiatives aligning with the network's labor strategy to enhance collaboration with unions, minimize disruption risks, and uphold the commitment to positive employee and labor relations.
    • Collaborates with the Labor Relations team to ensure a consistent approach to labor relations strategy organization-wide.
    • Offers strategic recommendations and plans for the region's labor relations needs, considering both regional and systemwide business requirements, across multiple bargaining units, contracts, and stakeholders.
    • Acts as the primary advisor on all day-to-day labor relations inquiries and issues for company leadership, management, and the HR Business Partner team in the region.
    • Builds strong partnerships with the HR Business Partner team in the region to provide expertise on labor issues, assess trends, vulnerabilities, and development opportunities collectively.
    • Supports the HR Business Partner team in handling employee relations matters, including investigations, performance management, corrective actions, terminations, grievances, and settlements.
    • Fosters effective working relationships with union leadership, ensuring contract compliance, proactive issue resolution, and balanced expectations for collective bargaining.
    • Leads contract negotiation strategy development, prepares bargaining proposals, and collaborates with internal and external labor counsel to execute negotiation strategies.
    • Operationalizes contract terms post-ratification, ensuring prompt resolution of implementation issues with cross-functional teams.
    • Leads mid-contract bargaining efforts, Memorandums of Agreement coordination, and communication with unions regarding new programs or policies.
    • Represents management in meetings with union representatives and oversees the grievance process and arbitration preparation.
    • Implements a comprehensive positive employee relations plan for the region, conducts vulnerability assessments, and provides ongoing education to management and HR on labor and CBA matters.
    • Oversees organizing campaign responses, stays informed of legislative developments, and manages Labor Specialists.
    • Acts as a key HR team member to ensure labor strategy alignment with HR priorities and company values.
    • Performs diverse duties as needed.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree and 5-10+ years of experience in labor management and leadership.
    • Hybrid position requiring presence at multiple locations.
    • Demonstrated experience in unionized environments with multiple bargaining units.
    • Strong interpersonal, judgment, and collaboration abilities.
    • Excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to simplify complex issues and implement change effectively.
