    Position Overview
    The Department of Social and Cultural Sciences is seeking an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) to begin in August 2024. Applicants will be expected to teach required and elective courses in the Criminology and Law Studies major.

    Research specialties are open, and the ability to contribute courses to other majors in the department and/or to curriculum being developed around race, ethnic, and Indigenous studies at the University will be considered an asset.

    Applicants must demonstrate excellence in teaching, evidence of scholarly productivity, and a clear research agenda, as well as demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success while working with diverse student populations.

    A PhD in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Law and Society, or a related social science field is required. ABDs with a clear timeline for completion before the start of employment will be considered. A J.D. alone is not sufficient for this position.
    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Contribute courses to the Criminology and Law Studies (CRLS) major.
    • Maintain active scholarly profile, conduct research, and publish regularly.
    • Participate in program curriculum and course development, and undergraduate student advising.
    • Department, College, University, and professional service.
    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    Earned doctorate or a terminal degree. Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence and high quality research.
    Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • A research program that includes undergraduate research opportunities.
    • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success while working with diverse student populations.
    • Ability to contribute to other majors in the department and/or curriculum being developed around race, ethnic, and Indigenous studies at the University.
