Duties:


The Social Worker (Psychotherapist) Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI), serves as a fully qualified Social Worker in Primary Care - Mental Health Integration Care Integration Program.

This is one of the functional units providing mental health services at the Washington DC VA Medical Center.

The incumbent has primary assignment in the support of behavioral health services to primary care patients as part of the Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PC-MHI) Program.


Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Completes structured diagnostic and clinical assessments for Veterans enrolled in PC-MHI Care Management services. This requires knowledge of medical terminology, diagnostic criteria, and ability to perform a chart review.
  • Provides biopsychosocial assessment, evaluation, and diagnostic services for Veterans with a broad range or psychopathology receiving care within the clinic setting.
  • Responds to referrals from PCPs in a timely manner. Assists the primary care team with determining the appropriate level of care for treatment, demonstrating an ability to understand the variety of clinical options available through the medical center and local community.
  • Provides consultation to health care providers about assessment findings and treatment plan for patients to ensure health care is coordinated, collaborative, and integrated within the healthcare system.
  • Develops implements and documents the mental health treatment plan for an assigned caseload of patients.

Qualifications:


Basic Requirements:


U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.-
Licensure. Must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Exception - at the GS-9 level only, this may be waived for people who are otherwise qualified, pending completion of state prerequisites for licensure/certification examinations. social workers who are not licensed or certified at the time of appointment must become licensed or certified at the independent, master's level within three years of their appointment as a social worker. Most states require two years of post-MSW experience as a prerequisite to taking the licensure/certification exam, and VHA gives social workers one additional year to pass the licensure/certification exam. In states such as California, Washington, and others where the prerequisites for licensure exceed two years, social workers must become licensed at the independent, master's level within one ye
