- Collect and dispose litter and windblown material.
- Perform all work in a safe manner utilizing proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Construct and maintain fences and signs.
- Fuel, clean, grease, maintain, and inspect trucks and equipment.
- Assist in the repair. Rehabilitation, and replacement of structures and pipes.
- Maintain and clean facilities.
- Assist in recycling activities.
- Transport equipment, construction supplies and materials.
- Use a variety of hand and power tools.
- Operate a variety of equipment as required.
- Observe safety precautions to prevent accidents to crew and equipment.
- Complete daily logs, work orders, inspection reports, surveys and other records or reports as required, providing complete documentation of necessary information.
- Refer construction or assignment related problems to Working Foreman for resolution.
- Refer problems and citizen complaints to the supervisor or division manager for resolution.
- Perform turf maintenance by way of mowing, line trimming, edging, seeding/mulching.
- Remove snow from city lots and streets using a pickup truck with a plow or a dump truck with a plow and wing.
- Empty garbage receptacles.
- Assist in demolition activities.
- Erect and maintain erosion control devices.
- Assist Maintenance and Construction Division as required.
- Assist in jetting/vactoring operations.
- Perform general inspections of collection system as required.
- Operate trailer mounted pumps and a trailer mounted pressure washer.
- Respond to emergency and overtime call outs as required, performing necessary activities and referring questions or problems to the Working Foreman or Supervisor.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Road maintenance and construction procedures, materials, and equipment.
- Occupational hazards and the safety precautions for performing light equipment operator tasks.
- Operate multi-purpose motorized equipment in a thorough, effective and efficient manner.
- Use and care for tools and equipment used in the general maintenance, construction and repair work.
- Understand and follow oral and written instruction.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and the public.
- Make minor repairs and adjustments of equipment.
- Keep records for billing purposes.
- Work under adverse weather conditions.
- Safely lift 60 pounds from ground level to overhead level.

The City of Superior is seeking a full-time, limited-term, fully benefitted, Light Equipment Operator to work at the City Landfill.
The City will assist with offering a CDL training program upon hire
Limited-term:The duration of this limited term position is expected to last until December 31, 2026, at which time the landfill is projected to close.
Location of work:
City Landfill, 107 Moccasin Mike Road
Wages:
$ $28.22/hour (2024 wage range)
Starting wage is $22.57. Pay grade is made up of 10 wage steps.
Employee would move to next step in the grade on anniversary date of hire with the City if meeting expectations of position.
Each wage step is approximately 2.5%.Hours: 40 hrs/wk; negotiable, between 6:30am - 4:30pm M-F;
May be required to work on some City holidays(will receive pay for holiday plus time-and-a-half for hours worked).

DEFINITION:

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Employees in this class perform a variety of tasks involving manual labor as well as in the operation of multi-purpose equipment requiring a degree of skill, especially in working grades and in operating equipment more efficiently and safely.
Employees in this class are trained to operate the full range of light equipment but may be assigned to operate specific equipment for their assignment.
Standard procedures are followed and the work is inspected periodically for safety and economy of operation by a supervisor.The Light Equipment Operator differs from the higher class of Medium Equipment Operator based upon the equipment operated, although, a Light Equipment Operator may train to operate higher rated equipment.

REQUIREMENTS:
Driver License Requirement:
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Landfill employees must obtain and maintain a valid Class B Commercials Driver's License within twelve (12) months of hire. City of Superior offers CDL training program upon hire.
Residency Requirement:
No residency requirement.
Background Investigation Requirement:
Must pass a background investigation as required by U.S. Department of Transportation standards.
