- Executes the fabrication, installation, replacement and repair of metal and steel.
- Performs structural fabrication, installation, repair, and maintenance tasks involved in repair, remodeling, and new welding projects.
- Fabricates, welds and repairs fender wells for tractors, grates for manhole covers, and brackets for wall exhaust fans and burglar screens.
- Welds and repairs various types of equipment including trucks, mowers, TV carts, and steam and hot water pipes.
- Performs custom fabrications using steel, stainless, aluminum, copper, and lead on shop machinery.
- Fabricates and installs sheet metal associated with commercial gutters and downspouts on mobile classrooms.
- Assists with relocating and anchoring MCR's and modifying and installing handrails for MCR decks and platforms.
- Fabricates and installs roof flashings, gravel stops, fascia metal, conductor-heads, roof curbs vents, traffic control gates, guardrails, and security screens.
- Repairs cafeteria equipment, exhaust ducts, tray rails, and replaces filters in kitchen hoods.
- Repairs all play and sports equipment for the district.
- Delivers, sets up, and performs annual safety inspections on portable wheelchair lifts.
- Installs ventilation kits for art kilns, vent dryers, exhaust fans, and fabricates and installs ductwork for HVAC equipment.
- Operates a Jet-Vac machine to keep all roof drain lines and catch basins flowing properly.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of and ability to use methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in welding and sheet metal
- Knowledge of various kinds of metal properties and gauges
- A working knowledge of all skilled trades areas, including but not limited to, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, construction contract administration and building codes
- Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recommendations, regulations, and work safety practices
- Knowledge of different types of substrates for new and existing work applications
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and job specifications
- Ability to perform skilled work involving fabrication, welding, repairing, and replacing structural facilities including awnings, gates, and scoreboards.
- Ability to operate and maintain tools, materials, and equipment
- Ability to work effectively in the absence of supervision
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Ability to fabricate a variety of parts for various shops on a lathe and milling machine
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media
- Operating knowledge of computer programs, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
- Excellent time management skills and ability to organize, prioritize, manage, and carry out duties efficiently and within established timeframes
- Associate degree with a precision metal working concentration
- 10 to 15 years of increasingly responsible welding experience
- 10 to 15 years of sheet metal experience
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position
- Possession of a valid driver's license
- Have a B-license to operate lift gate trucks
- AWS Certified Welder Certification, desired
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license, or ability to provide own transportation
- Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
- Specialized welding training
- Trade school or community college welding-fabrication courses
- 5 to10 years of fabrication-welding experience
- Experience in all types of welding, mig, tig, stick, and gas welding
