    Team Lead Packaging Mechanic- Blackfoot, Idaho

    We are hiring for a Day shift Team Lead Packaging Mechanic at our Blackfoot, Idaho facility

    Job Summary


    This position is accountable for the timely installation, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of complex packaging equipment and facilities that are instrumental in the efficient functioning of automated packaging lines and a facility operating on a 24 hour/day, 7 day/week operation.


    The incumbent is assigned jobs by the supervisor or a superintendent and is expected to complete most jobs, including those of a complex nature, with little to no supervision.

    The Mechanic works with others on higher skill level jobs, can act as a leader on lower skill level jobs, and may be assigned to a rotating shift.

    All assignments must be carried out under stringent safety and sanitation standards.

    Quality requirements are constantly monitored, necessitating equipment fabrication and machine operations within specific tolerances and operational specifications to insure the delivery of food products on time and at the lowest cost by conforming exactly to the customer's requirements.

    Participation of employees in the implementation of improved concepts is encouraged in all production processes.


    Skills required include an advanced journey level proficiency in welding, plumbing, electrical repair, running lathes and milling machines, fabricating and repairing pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

    Additionally, the incumbent must own and maintain a basic set of hand tools.

    Some weekend and on call work is required.

    Principle Accountabilities

    Troubleshoot and perform repairs to equipment that has failed in a manner that minimizes downtime.

    During process line downtime, schedule and perform preventative maintenance and equipment repairs.


    Fabricate, manufacture or assemble items as indicated on blue prints, sketches or schematics of complex objects and circuitry as requested in work orders.


    Rebuild or remodel highly complex pieces of packaging machinery such as gear boxes, motors, Ishida fillers, checkweighers, Fortress/Safeline metal detectors, coders etc.

    Maintain an appropriate inventory of parts on hand to facilitate timely repair of equipment.

    Maintain an up-to-date understanding of the proper use of all repair equipment through an on-going training schedule.

    May be assigned to perform specialized job functions eg: automation, construction electrician, instrumentation, machinist, electronic specialist etc.

    Although assigned to a specialized job, the incumbent will be expected to assist in areas outside of that specialty as the need arises.

    Understand safety regulations and procedures on all assignments.

    Must maintain the highest standards of data management by creating consistent, reliable data which will ensure accuracy and in turn, maximize the use of data and confidence in decision making.

    Proactively manage safety by ensuring compliance with all Federal and State regulations and internal Company policies. Regularly complete behavior-based safety observations. Ensure unsafe conditions are corrected in a timely manner.

    All employees are responsible for upholding the principles of SQF 2000.


    All employees are responsible for immediately reporting any food safety, food quality or plant security issues to management for appropriate action.

    Perform other duties as assigned.


    Qualifications:

    Education and/or Experience:
    This position requires the incumbent to have advanced skills as an industrial mechanic


    Special skills required are:
    Experience working with carton formers, pouch formers, and case packers.

    Knowledge with troubleshooting filler scales, metal detectors, and check weighers.

    Familiarity with Fanuc robots, Robo Guide, and Pallet Pro.

    Ability to work with 4-20mA, Servo drive motors, Bosch/Rexroth indramat drive systems.

    Must be able to read and navigate electrical drawings.


    Language Skills:
    Ability to read and comprehend simple to complex instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write various types of documents including, but not limited to, instructions, training outlines, and reports. Ability to effectively present information verbally in one-on-one to large group situations.


    Reasoning Ability:
    Must be able to creatively apply experience and common sense to a variety of situations, processes, and people. Must be able to make technical decisions and support the staff on technical issues. Possess the ability to manage several projects concurrently. Be able to plan work, order parts, and coordinate downtime to complete work orders. Be able to resolve issues which may include conflicts between employees, equipment malfunctions, and variations in operating conditions.


    Computer Skills:
    Must demonstrate strong skills in Microsoft Office suite and be able to effectively use Maintenance Management Software.
