    Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Nuclear Research Structural System Engineer to work in our Reactor Project Engineering department supporting advanced microreactor projects. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located on-site out of our Materials and Fuels Complex with every Friday off

    Responsibilities Include:

    • Apply knowledge, practices, and techniques to reactor designs are correct
    • Apply engineering knowledge, processes, through the design and implementation phases
    • Ensure continued operational readiness of assigned systems and components to support ongoing nuclear operations and reactor development
    • Utilize a strong technical understanding of the design requirements, system performance criteria, physical configuration, operation, testing, and maintenance of assigned systems and components
    • Oversee the design documents (calculations, specs, system design descriptions) performed by reactor designers or subcontractors.
    • Assign quality requirements, develop and support execution of startup activities, and maintain redlines and as-build drawings.
    • Perform design and modification activities to support advanced reactors at MFC.
      • Perform mechanical and structural calculations, design simple to complex structural modifications to existing structures and design new structures related to engineering design projects.
      • Perform mechanical and structural engineering design, participating in in-house structural engineering design projects, and working with external engineering firms to support project specific design tasks, cost/schedule/scope base lining of engineering projects, technical and functional requirements development, conceptual design reports, procurement and construction specifications and contract documents development, and field construction support.
      • Complete code compliance designs, studies, and oversight per the ASME BPVC Section III and AISC N690. Additional relevant codes and standards are ACI, ASCE 7, ASCE 43, ASCE 4, AISC, IBC.
      • Ensure the INL Engineering Standards and DOE Orders and Standards have been implemented in their work and the work for which they have cognizance.
      • Design, analyze and evaluate structures/systems in accordance with ASME BPVC Section III
    • Assess the designs of advanced microreactors relative to DOE standards for seismic and other natural phenomena hazards
    • Perform finite element software calculations
    • Assess situations impacting structural integrity and public health and safety
    • Apply advanced or complex engineering concepts and techniques to solve Structural/Civil related problems
    • Complete engineering work tasks such as design/analysis efforts, maintenance activities and operating written instructions

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Civil or Structural Engineering and 5-8+ years relevant engineering experience, OR a Master's Degree and 3-6+ years relevant engineering experience.
    • Professional Engineering License in Mechanical/Civil/Structural Engineering is ideal
    • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

    • Salary Grade: PR $110,316 - $181,956) / PR $124,368 - $211,596)
