    The Division of Veterans Services is recruiting for a full-time Veterans Cemetery Caretaker Senior position at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Blackfoot.

    This position will work a Monday
    • Friday schedule with weekends off This position leads the Cemetery Caretaker in daily operations, operates machinery/equipment used in gravesite preparation and landscaping, troubleshoots and repairs irrigation systems, performs construction and mechanical maintenance work and maintains related systems and equipment.
    This position involves the physical ability to lift and carry items weighing approximately 75 pounds.

    Incumbents climb and work from ladders, bend, stoop, and work around pesticides, Candidates follow specific National Cemetery Administration (NGA) guidelines for military personnel and their spouses.

    Summary:
    Perform specialized landscaping and grounds maintenance work at a state veterans cemetery; operate machinery/equipment used in gravesite preparation and landscaping; maintenance related equipment; perform related work


    Responsibilities:

    Incumbents may lift and carry items weighing approximately 75 pounds, bend, stoop, and shovel in all types of weather.

    Use of heavy equipment such as backhoe, dump truck, hydraulic auger, sod cutter, and tampers are routinely use for burials.

    Knowledge and execution of accurate alignment and placement of granite headstones require the use of specialized lifting devices and hand tools.

    Under the direction of the supervisor, repairs and upgrades the irrigation system requires repair and replacement of irrigation pipes and sprinklers using hand tools.

    Routine facility maintenance requires the use of ladders and standard hand tools to address plumbing and lighting maintenance.

    Daily operations throughout the cemetery will require the use of motorized equipment such as John Deer Gator for travel and the use of a forklift for loading and unloading of routine delivery trucks.

    This class identifies the Veterans Cemetery Caretaker who has the day-to-day responsibility for landscaping and grounds maintenance.

    In addition to performing the Landscaping Technician duties, incumbent may train , assign work, and review the performance of subordinates or volunteers.


    EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
    + + Lead the Cemetery Caretaker in the accomplishment of cemetery operations activities + Prepare and finish gravesites meeting precise National Cemetery Administration (NCA) guidelines + Digging and squaring graves; setting and aligning headstones + Setting up and removing casket lowering devices + Backfilling and tamping graves + Maintaining the appearance of surrounding grounds to include, mowing, trimming, raking, seeding and removal of debris + Repairing and relocating irrigation sprinklers + Responsible for getting work started on time and ensures compliance with project deadlines and quality control + Operate and provide guidance and training to others on the operation of vehicles and equipment + Perform other duties of Cemetery Caretakers in the absence of the

    Foreman Minimum Qualifications:
    + + Experience preparing interments and placing markers + Experience operating and maintaining excavation type machinery such as backhoes, front end loaders, dump trucks and other equipment associated with construction and landscaping + Experience performing rough carpentry and welding + Experience performing maintenance on irrigation systems + Experience reading/interpreting plans and blueprints + Experience using and servicing mowers, tool cat, trimmers & blowers, hydraulic auger and snow removal equipment + Good knowledge of grounds keeping, and general grounds maintenance work MQ Specialties: Requires a valid driver's license
