    HR Generalist & Compliance Specialist - Construction

    Position Overview: As an HR Generalist & Compliance Specialist at our construction company, you will play a pivotal role in coordinating, implementing, and maintaining our organization's employment practices, policies, and compliance initiatives. This position is integral to ensuring a positive employee experience, driving engagement, and maintaining regulatory compliance across various HR functions.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Onboarding & Offboarding Support:
    • Develop and enhance onboarding and offboarding processes to provide a seamless experience for new and departing employees.
    1. Recruitment Assistance:
    • Assist department managers in the hiring process, including job postings, interview scheduling, background checks, and offer letters.
    1. Policy & Compliance Management:
    • Collaborate on updating company policies, employee handbooks, and job descriptions to enhance employee communication and engagement.
    • Stay updated on federal, state, and local employment laws and practices, ensuring compliance with regulations such as Davis-Bacon, Prevailing Wage, and Certified Payroll requirements.
    1. Payroll & Benefits Administration:
    • Process bi-weekly salary payroll and provide support for hourly union payrolls.
    • Manage multi-state payroll tax filings and oversee onsite benefits administration responsibilities.
    1. Employee Engagement:
    • Plan and organize employee engagement events to foster a positive workplace culture.
    1. Training & Development:
    • Source and schedule employee training sessions on HR-related topics.
    1. Performance Management & Employee Relations:
    • Assist in employee performance improvement plans, disciplinary actions, terminations, and exit interviews, maintaining necessary documentation.
    1. Compliance Initiatives:
    • Partner with accounting and administration on broader compliance initiatives related to customers, vendors, contracts, and project execution.
    1. Systems Implementation:
    • Assist in implementing or expanding the use of ERP, payroll, and HRIS software as needed.

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum of two years of multi-state payroll processing experience, preferably in a union environment.
    • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in human resources or relevant HR experience/certification.
    • Knowledge of local, state, and federal employment laws and HR concepts.
    • Understanding of construction or service organization business methods preferred.
    • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, with intermediate Excel and Word skills.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information with integrity.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

    Environmental & Physical Demands:

    • Strong analytical and math skills.
    • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
    • Comfortable with computer use and literacy.
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use hands regularly.
    • Vision abilities for close vision and adjusting focus.
    • Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds may be required.
    • Ability to work in a cubicle environment with moderate noise levels.
