Job Summary:

The Study of U.S. Institutes for Student Leaders (SUSI) Program is seeking Student Mentors to serve as cultural ambassadors and assist with various program related duties. Two residential mentor positions are available. For these positions, mentors will receive housing in the dorm with participants (July 5 - July 31) and some dining services credit. Read about the SUSI Program.
Training on campus to be determined. Overnight camp is July 5 - July 31.

Essential Duties:

Assist with program orientation
Serve as a cultural ambassador and mentor to 20 program participants from Latin American countries
Chaperone and provide transportation for off campus visits
Coordinate optional weekend trips with other student program staff
Attend program events / meetings (and assist in interpreting at some events)
Assist with English classes and country presentations
Attend weekly meetings with program leadership
Write weekly reports detailing student life in the dorm (accidents, behavioral issues, conflicts. etc.)
Take students on a weekly shopping trip
Set-up dorms for student arrival
Assist students in emergencies / lock outs
Work up to 20 hours weekly; expect to work a minimum of 15 hours weekly
Attend / chaperone / provide transportation to and from events

Minimum Qualifications:

Excellent interpersonal communication skills
Ability to lead and collaborate with individuals from a variety of cultural backgrounds
Residence life or student / academic leadership experience preferred
Ability to establish and maintain appropriate boundaries with program participants
Ability to abide by and enforce rules and guidelines for program participants
Intermediate to Advanced Spanish language proficiency
Valid Driver's License, for applicants over the age of 21.
Selected students who will be providing transportation must pass a Motor Vehicle Record Report via HireRight.
