    Position Summary Description

    The Senior Engineer oversees the project's conception, design, and specification, including but not limited to, reliability and economic analysis of new loads, best practices to integrate new resources or substations, and identification of areas on the Seminole system requiring upgrades/modifications for future load growth. In addition, the Senior Engineer, manages the evaluation of new generation and/or transmission facilities to the Seminole or Member transmission systems following FERC interconnection guidelines; leads the development and implementation of documentation for transmission planning compliance with the NERC Reliability Standards and FRCC requirements; evaluates transmission and generation options to serve Seminole Member load effectively and efficiently.

    Essential Functions

    • Performs the function of Subject Matter Expert (SME) as it relates to assigned NERC Reliability Standards associated with the Planning Authority (PA) and Transmission Planner (TP) function.
    • Reviews and approves staff and consultant designs
    • Analyzes all system disturbances for Seminole and all member delivery points to ascertain cause/effect and remedial action if necessary
    • Represents Seminole on applicable SERC and FRCC technical committees relating to transmission planning
    • Keeps abreast of new technologies and advancements, as well as participates at some level with outside organizations such as IEEE or NERC standard drafting teams
    • Assists junior staff
    • Performs other duties as applicable to the position or as assigned.

    Qualifications and Education Requirements

    Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required. Advanced degree in engineering preferred. Eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in electric power utility in the discipline of system planning and associated NERC standards and compliance requirements. Professional registration as an engineer in Florida or an advanced degree in engineering may substitute for one (1) year of experience.

    Technical Competencies/Skills:

    • Load flow, short circuit, and stability Simulation Software, preferably Siemens PSS/E, TARA, TSAT, VSAT
    • NERC TPL, MOD, FAC, PRC, IRO, and CIP Reliability Standards
    • Ability to write computer language scripts to automate the processes
    • Electromagnetic Transient simulations (EMT) simulation using PSCAD
    • Economic evaluations
    • Drawings and diagrams
    • Transmission design and instruction manuals
    • Generator Interconnection Studies
    • Contract management
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

    Soft Competencies/Skills:

    • Effective verbal/nonverbal, listening, and written communications
    • Self-starter/self-motivated
    • Risk Management
    • Ability to develop, communicate, and coordinate project plans and projects. Strong ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects.

    Physical Requirements

    Must be able to follow established protective measures including wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE). Must possess a valid driver's license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.

    Working Conditions

    Some travel, overnight stays, and work outside of normal business hours to existing and future transmission facilities, substation and generator sites as required. While working in certain areas of substations and/or switchyards, there is the potential for exposure to hazards typical of an industrial working environment.
