    Job Summary

    /Basic Function:
    For the academic year, 25 NYC-area TC graduates who hail from underrepresented backgrounds and/or teach high-need subject areas will receive induction support during their first year of teaching as part of the New Teacher Induction at Teachers College () Program. These graduates will receive one-on-one mentorship that is tailored to their needs and their teaching context, supportive programming, and opportunities to connect their colleagues and administrators with TC-based events. Accordingly, we are seeking an experienced teacher/teacher educator to serve as the Graduate Research Assistant for the New Teacher Induction at Teachers College () Program. The person in this role will act as a coordinator for many induction activities, a mentor to 2 graduates, and a member of a research team.

    The responsibilities of a OTE Induction Graduate Research Assistant may include and are not limited to:
    Supporting 25 TC graduates with their job hunts during the summer of 2023;
    Supporting the OTE Associate Director with recruiting, hiring, and interviewing 6-10 induction mentors for the academic year;
    Matching each of the 25 TC graduates with an induction mentor who will offer them support across the year;
    Building relationships with administrators and teachers at our graduates' places of employment, so that TC may better learn about our partner schools' needs;
    Acting as an induction mentor for 2 graduates, offering support sessions focused on areas of need across the year (e.g. goal-setting, planning, instruction, assessment, classroom management, self-care, community building;
    Collaborate with the OTE Associate Director and the induction team to identify needs common to new teachers in order to inform professional development opportunities for the group;
    Facilitate professional development "workspaces," in which graduates can deepen their practice and connect meaningfully with peers;
    Collaborate with the OTE Associate Director to co-facilitate induction mentor meetings across the academic year;
    Collaborate with the OTE Associate Director and TC's Office of Accreditation to collect data on the experience of our graduates and the effectiveness of the induction programming;

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Master's degree in an education related field;
    Minimum 3 years of teaching experience in an urban setting;
    Teaching certification (seeking a variety of areas, as we have graduates from a variety of programs);
    Excellent communication and writing skills;
    Ability to effectively interact and engage with others in unfamiliar contexts, particularly within NYC DOE schools;
    Ability to develop strong, positive, and professional relationships;
    Availability to visit schools and meet with teachers during school days/hours;
    Cannot currently be a full-time teacher.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Familiarity with high-needs urban schools, especially in NYC;
    Experience mentoring/supporting beginning teachers;
    Experience communicating with principals and administrators about school visits and support for beginning teachers;
    Flexibility and willingness to adapt mentoring approach and supports;
    Experience building partnerships and collaborating with diverse groups;
    Experience coordinating program activities;
    Familiarity with leading learning experiences for adults.

    Salary Range:

    3, ,500.00
