Position Overview:

The most senior physician with clinical responsibility for the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)
- accredited residency and fellowship programs at Sutter Health. Serves as chair of the graduate medical education committee (GMEC). Will work in partnership with Sutter Health executives to lead the expansion of residency and fellowship training programs across the Sutter Health network.


Principal Accountabilities

  • Provide administrative oversight and accreditation guidance for all graduate medical education (GME) programs sponsored by Sutter Health and effectively carry out all educational, administrative, and leadership responsibilities.
  • Serve as chair and voting member of the GMEC.
  • Support and prguiderogram directors, coordinators, and faculty involved in GME programs. Foster a culture of excellence in teaching, mentorship, and professional development. Promote faculty engagement in scholarly activities and educational research.
  • Monitor the progress, performance, and wellbeing of residents and fellows. Implement mechanisms to evaluate their educational experiences, including regular feedback, evaluations, and performance assessments. Support programs to address resident/fellow concerns and promote worklife balance.
  • Stay abreast of current trends, best practices, and innovations in GME education. Engage in professional development opportunities to further enhance knowledge and skills in medical education, leadership, and accreditation processes.
  • Participate in clinical learning environment review site visits and oversee preparation processes.
  • Approve program letters of agreement that govern relationships between each program and each participating site providing a required assignment for residents/fellows in the program.
  • Oversee submission of the annual update for each program and the sponsoring institution to the ACGME.
  • Monitor, in conjunction with the GMEC, the response by the programs to actions recommended by the GMEC in the periodic and special review processes.
  • Oversee and conduct the annual institutional review (AIR).
  • Prepare for GMEC and submit annually a written executive summary of the AIR to the Sutter Health board oversight committees.

EDUCATION

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE

  • 8 years of recent relevant experience
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

  • Broad knowledge of and demonstrated interest in the field of graduate medical education.
  • Broad knowledge of healthcare operations, financial management and strategic planning
  • Proven leadership skills in leading a diverse work team
  • Process improvement capabilities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment and to build consensus
Base salary will be calculated based on the.75 FTE allotted for this position.
