    Summary:


    To support and enhance the mission of the Office of Residential Life & Explorations, the Assistant Director (AD) will be responsible for creating and maintaining a comprehensive residential environment that is academically and socially stimulating for the holistic development of students.

    This position oversees the staff development and training aspects for both our office team and our peer educators, the recruitment of our Resident Assistants (RA) and Senior RAs, residential curriculum development for the department, as well as development of office recognition programs.

    This position requires significant interaction and collaboration with many college divisions.


    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Supervision:
    • Supervise 2-4 Area Coordinators and indirectly supervise 20-25 RAs, and 2-4 Senior RAs in areas with approximately residents.
    • Develop meaningful working relationships with Area Coordinators by conducting regular one-on-one meetings to provide feedback coaching and professional development.
    • Educate Area Coordinators on the student staff evaluation and disciplinary process.
    • Conduct yearly evaluation process for Area Coordinators.
    • Supervises Area Coordinators with the collateral topics of Training, and Selection and Curriculum.
    • Serve as an advocate for Area Coordinator, Resident Assistant, and student needs.
    • Staff Recruitment and Training:
    • Lead department processes for recruitment, and selection of all undergraduate student staff.
    • Plan and execute Fall and Winter Training for RAs and coordinate with the Associate Director for Explorations for Peer Educator training.
    • Assist with planning and execution of Summer Office Staff Training for RLE Professional Staff, Graduate Staff, and Student Coordinators.
    • Create staff development activities and ongoing professional development for RAs.
    • Assists the Director with the recruitment and selection of Area Coordinators.
    • Collaborate with Campus partners to develop holistic training for Peer Educators.
    • Curriculum and Community Development:
    • Co-lead the curriculum committee and assist in the continued development of the RLE residential curriculum.
    • Create community development expectations for both Cohort Housing Community and Upperclassmen Halls in collaboration with the Associate Directors.
    • Conduct and Crisis Management:
    • Responsible for understanding and upholding the Code of Community Standards and the Guide to Residence Hall Living in a developmental manner.
    • Serve in an on-call duty rotation supporting approximately 1,800 residential students.
    • Respond to crises when deemed appropriate by senior-level staff.
    • Work collaboratively with Facilities and Campus Safety to create a safe environment conducive to learning.
    • Assist with Residential Life conduct and follow up on community standard related issues.
    • Administrative and Departmental Responsibilities:
    • Oversees the coordination of department processes within assigned areas, including hall openings and closings, life and safety inspections, damage billing, and room switches.
    • Attends all department and division wide meetings.
    • Participates in and assists with the housing selection process for returning residents.
    • Participates in the move in and move out processes of the department.
    • Maintains clear, and consistent communication with department and campus partners on a variety of topics, ensuring a timely response to concerns, exceptional support of students, and a commitment to the college, division, and department missions.
    • Demonstrate a commitment to Rollins College's institutional goals surrounding Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging by operationalizing and executing social justice initiatives.
    • Professional Development:
    • Create an annual professional development plan and goals with the supervisor's assistance.
    • Participate in staff training and development opportunities.
    • Be an engaged member of the profession by being aware of current trends and best practices in Student Affairs and Higher Education.
    • Be involved in regional and national professional organizations and, when possible, attend local, regional, and/or national conferences.
    Minimum


    Qualifications & Education:

    • A master's degree in student personnel, educational leadership, counseling, or a related field required by time of employment.
    • Minimum of two years of professional experience in residential life.
    • Demonstrated skills in the following areas: staff supervision; training and leadership; selection and recruitment processes; crisis intervention and management; conflict resolution; programming; written and oral communication; budget management; residence hall administration; and assessment
    Preferred


    Qualifications:

    • Live-in residential experience as a Graduate Assistant or professional staff member.
    • Experience with residential curriculum development.
    • Experience at a small private liberal arts college.
    • Demonstrate an understanding of the issues related to residential living and student development theory.
    • Knowledge of student information systems (i.e. Roompact, The Housing Director).

    Work Environment:

    • Live-in role within the area they oversee.
    • Evening/weekend work (event attendance) and rotating on-call responsibilities.
    • Must be able to traverse stairs and travel between multiple buildings as part of duties.
    • Campus-based, front-facing customer service position, and working in an office environment.
    • Work requires visual strain and the use of a computer.
    • Fast-paced team environment requiring an ability to multitask.
