Position Overview The Assistant Chief Engineer has the responsibility of assisting the Chief Engineer with managing facility maintenance and repair operations.
The Assistant Chief Engineer also performs mechanical and electrical maintenance as well as installation and repair of facility support equipment in order to assure proper upkeep of the facility and its equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assisting the Chief Engineer includes managing the daily care and maintenance of school facilities, managing daily schedules and work assignments of the maintenance staff, overseeing vendors and contractors, and purchasing maintenance-related supplies to ensure adequate inventory is on hand.
Bi-weekly shared on-call responsibilities Responsibilities on designing a work order program, PM's and SOP's Maintain an in-service program for engineering and maintenance staff to improve work skills.
Follow through with work requests as assigned by the Chief Engineer.Document daily inspection reports results ensuring the proper functioning of building equipment, assigning corrective work, and performing follow up inspections.
Maintain support equipment according to all manufacturer's specifications. Update and note deficiencies of all facility equipment. Expedite all repairs and work requests to give the best possible service to all departments. Maintain records and files of buildings and equipment as needed. Maintain inventory of parts and supplies. Maintain cleanliness in work areas to ensure safe working conditions. Refer to the attached Maintenance Task List for a complete list of equipment-related tasks. Perform other related duties as assigned.Basic knowledge of Fire System operation Basic knowledge of Security System operation Maintain Pool water chemistry Ability and willingness to meet physical demands of the position:
Ability to lift and carry 100 lbs on a routine basis Climb ladders to 20 feet Use of hands for repetitive use, such as: grasping, fine manipulation Operate man lift up to 36' Bending stooping, twisting, crouching, pushing, pulling, reaching, grabbing, and crawling in confined places Education and/or Experience High school diploma or equivalent skills and/or experience.
Completion of a 1-year general Building Maintenance course at an approved vo-tech school. State of Minnesota boiler operator's license Class 1B or 1C required. Chief C Boilers preferred 1-year Specialized refrigeration and air conditioning course at an approved vo-tech school. Universal refrigeration license. Minimum 3 years of responsible Building Maintenance and HVAC experience in a large facility. Supervisorial experience preferred. Knowledgeable of applicable federal, state, and local rules and ordinances to ensure full compliance. Certified Pool and Spa Operator (CPO) Competencies Leadership, initiative, planning and organization skills coupled with good judgment. Skillful oral and written communicator. Ability to troubleshoot HVAC, electrical circuits and rooftop units Professional demeanor across a variety of settings and audiences. Clean and neat appearance. Self-starter, Proactive, optimistic, and positive attitude. Good sense of humor, ability to smile; balanced perspective; patience. High degree of integrity and trustworthiness. Builds strong relationships with team members.Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies and a diverse, multilingual workforce, with ability to communicate in Spanish preferred.
Ability to be flexible and work under frequent interruptions while keeping up with the flow of work. Understanding of facilities systems, such as mechanical, electrical, and HVAC. Knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and terminology of facilities trades, such as carpentry, masonry, and housekeeping. Able to read a blueprint.Computer proficiency to include use of email, CAD/CAM, and computerized facilities management systems; Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word and Excel, preferred.
Able and willing to work a flexible full-time schedule, including evenings and weekends. Ability to pass a pre-offer Physical Fitness Test.
