    Summary

    The South Main Orthopaedic Surgery has an opening for an experienced, self-motivated, team oriented Patient Services Assistant. This position is located at 2098 S. Main St.

    This role will be to provide skilled support and work collaboratively with other members of the South Main Orthopaedic Surgery Team.

    Responsibilities
    • This position will include a variety of patient support tasks including:Check-in duties and check-out duties
    Answer incoming phone calls at Check in/Check out
    Provide a warm welcome to patients entering the clinic
    Explain a variety of forms and obtain patient signatures as required
    Schedule follow-up appointments
    Schedule specialty tests
    Collect co-pays.
    Complete end of day processes

    Communicate and work collaboratively with all clinic personnel (MA, faculty, residents, nurses, OR Schedulers) to address patient needs and issues when identified.

    Print medical information to facilitate the patients visit.
    Provide directions to other clinic locations (i.e. Radiology and Orthotics & Prosthetics)
    Obtaining authorizations for Occupational therapy and Orthotics and Prosthetics
    Call for interpreters and transporters.
    Process documents to central imaging.
    Attend staff meetings as scheduled.
    Other duties as assigned.

    The successful candidate will be required to actively participate in the department?s Lean initiatives, Service Excellence programs, maintain M-learning compliance, specific procedure competencies and knowledge of regulatory agency requirements.

    Required Qualifications


    The preferred candidate will be responsible for meeting the highest standard of customer service while facilitating the communication between patients and families, general public, payers, referring physicians and other healthcare providers.

    Basic medical terminology competency is required.

    Candidates should have the appropriate skill set to be able to manage a fast paced work environment, heavy workload and be able to work a flexible schedule, per clinic need.

    Applicants must have exceptional interpersonal skills, the ability to work well within a team setting, and communicate effectively.
    Applicants must havethe ability to type at least 50 wpm and experience with email programs.
    The successful candidate will have completed high school or GED, and have 2-3 years of experience.
    Applicants must demonstrate active listening, written, verbal and information technology skills.
    Desired Qualifications

    Previous Orthopaedic experience is helpful. Previous experience working with MiChart/Epic care, as well as knowledge of University policies and procedures is helpful.
    Work Schedule

    6:30am - 5:15pm (rotating shifts - may vary dependent upon clinical needs)
    Monday - Friday (with the exception of meetings or coverage when necessary. We utilize flex scheduling to off-set hours worked in excess of 8 in any one day).
    Work Locations

    2098 S. Main St. Huron Valley Professional building, South Main Orthopaedic Surgery Clinic.
    Occasionally, PSA staff may be asked to rotate to other units when they are short staffed.
