    Description

    The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for a Full-Time Integrated Operational Support Clinical Social Worker (GS to work at the 93rd Air Ground Operations Wing, Fort Cavazos, Killeen, TX.

    The primary purpose of this position to provide a full range of professional social work services within operational Air Force (AF) squadrons.

    Serves as a member of a multidisciplinary Integrated Operational Support (IOS) team directly supporting the Line of the Air Force (LAF) mission assigned to the 93rd Air Ground Operations Wing with the goal of building resiliency, enhancing human performance and improving unit mission effectiveness.

    Clinical and administrative duties focus on education and prevention, psychosocial assessment and diagnosis, and evidenced- based interventions and treatment.


    This mission-critical position offers the flexibility to hire like the private sector with a direct stream-lined application and expedited hiring process due to a severe shortage of candidates or critical hiring needs.

    This hiring approach is called Direct Hiring Authority (DHA) which allows the Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) to hire applicants from the general public with no prior federal civilian or Veteran status.

    Not including overtime, holiday pay, annual or within-grade pay increases)

    • Retirement
    • Immediate coverage by the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS)
    -human performance. Integrates into the full spectrum of squadron activities observing squadron personnel in the conduct of their duties across the full span of worksites, processes, and shifts. To the maximum extent allowed by policy, physical ability, and safety, participates in squadron activities being observed to include all mission sets, functional teams, duty locations, and work shifts.

    • Develops and implements initiatives to mitigate psychosocial stressors and risks and optimize airmen performance.

    Utilizes information gathered through direct observations within squadron worksites, interviews with squadron personnel, and objective medical, safety, and fitness data, in order to select or develop evidence-based initiatives to mitigate identified hazards and barriers to optimal health and performance, and to enhance resiliency.

    Collaborates with other IOS members and line unit personnel in selecting and/or developing risk-mitigation and performance-enhancement strategies and in developing the Unit Action Plan.


    • Provides psychological consultation, education, and training to military commanders/senior leaders, other mental
    health professionals, and medical staff. Works with IOS members to provide mutual consultative support to unit
    commanders and other unit personnel within areas of expertise and experience.

    Provides training to mental health and medical staff in order to raise awareness of psychosocial stressors inherent to the military duties of airmen in higher-risk units.

    Consults with commanders and other unit personnel regarding issues that bear upon psychosocial health within the unit and evidence-based strategies for mitigating psychological stressors and optimizing individual and team/unit performance.

    • Ability to provide guidance and consultation services to medical professionals and military leaders, and facilitate
    referrals to military or community-based human service agencies and resources; financial aid organizations.


    At a minimum, must fulfill all of the requirements for the master's degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education and other qualification requirements stipulated by the US Office of Personnel Management (OPM) for the 0185 occupational series.


    • Selective Placement Factor: Possess a current, unrestricted license to practice clinical social work

    requirements IAW local military treatment facility guidelines and be fully qualified to perform within the
