    The Data Center Capacity Delivery team is looking for an exceptional individual to join our Commissioning organization as the AMER Region Commissioning Manager.

    You will manage a fast-moving, intelligent team of commissioning professionals delivering data center capacity to support Amazon's growth in North and South America .

    The ideal candidate will have experience in managing a multi-city, or international team of highly skilled individuals.

    The candidate will possess mechanical, electrical, construction, project management background that enables him/her to undertake the challenges of ensuring the quality and reliability of sophisticated electrical and mechanical systems to our customers.

    They will need to demonstrate the ability to think broadly and strategically in aligning commissioning program with the larger objectives of the business.

    Key job responsibilities


    • As a leader of Commissioning managers and teams, you will have broad responsibility for hiring, developing, and cultivating a high-performing and capable team.
    • Creating a team vision and establish priorities that align with roadmaps, goals, and relevant metrics for measuring both internal and external performance.
    • Manage the implementation of Amazon's safety programs and standards in collaboration with both internal and external project teams during the planning and execution phases of a project.
    • Lead cross-functional teams independently within AWS Infrastructure Services to drive quality-focused initiatives aimed at improving quality, testing standards, and reducing system defects.
    • Utilizing your understanding of data center mechanical and electrical infrastructure technology and lifecycles, you identify improvement areas in existing and next-generation data center testing methodologies.
    • Communicating and providing guidance to Finance during the development and execution of capital budgets.
    • Utilizing methodical approaches, experience, innovation, and judgment, deliver solutions to complex problems through in-depth data analysis and forensics, often making decisions based on partial information.
    • Partner with vendor Procurement teams to oversee vendor service providers to ensure their skills, competencies, and performance meet the requirements for enabling successful project deployments.
    • Discover ways to adapt to constant change and innovation, thinking big and offering flexible solutions for a dynamic business environment.
    • Prepare and present project status and risk reports, comprehending the detailed implications of decisions and recommendations, and effectively communicate suggested solutions to executive leadership.
    • Travel up to 25% within assigned regions.

    The AWS Commissioning (ACx) team is an independent critical infrastructure validations team within the Data Center Planning and Delivery (DCPD) organization.

    This team is comprised of Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Controls Engineers, Project Managers, Operators and seasoned Amazonians.

    The team is uniquely positioned to provide detailed engineering and operational reviews, validation of equipment designs, functional testing and system level performance of data centers.

    ACx supports design reviews, factory witness testing, critical infrastructure installation and startup documentation review, execution of functional testing, and final integrated system testing.

    Commissioning Engineers (CxE's) are responsible for documenting all deficiencies identified and the teams responsible for remediating.

    This team is focused on ensuring the rapid delivery of a quality product while maintaining full transparency and recording specifics of manufacturer/contractor/equipment defects pre Power Facility Hand Off (PFHO).

    The ACx team is engaged throughout the entire build process, however a clear Handoff to Commissioning (H2C) milestone is established on each project, delineating when all construction and controls activities are complete and the systems are ready for functional performance testing, with all required documentation submitted.

    The ACx team has CxE's that both oversee Commissioning vendor execution in new build commissioning and self-perform commissioning activities in Data Center upgrade projects as part of fleet remediation.

    The team tenets are quality, efficiency, and reliability of critical mechanical, electrical and controls systems for all AWS data centers.

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent engineering science OR 10+ years of related commissioning experience in lieu of a degree
    • 10+ years of experience directly leading, managing, mentoring, and coaching, construction, engineering design, and/or commissioning professionals.
    • 10+ years hiring, promoting, and developing teams of professional engineering staff
    • 8+ years of vendor management experience (request for proposals, bidding, change orders, quality control, RFI/submittal tracking) associated with commissioning and/or project execution

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Knowledge and experience with large scale mechanical and electrical systems
    • Understand mechanical infrastructure principles for cooling systems
    • Understand electrical infrastructure principles for electrical distribution systems
    • Experience directly related to the design or construction of data centers
    • Experience with large scale technical operations or large-scale data centers
    • Ability to define data center system-level architecture, specify/document performance and equipment requirements, create/communicate conceptual designs, and create/maintain project documentation.
    • Ability and willingness to find creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs and duration with no impact on quality and reliability.
    • Perform business case analysis to justify project scope and financial position for management review

    Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets.

    The base pay for this position ranges from $143,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $278,100/year in our highest geographic market.

    Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
