- Work with other systems engineers to develop and deploy scalable IT solutions while meeting NOAA security boundary requirements.
- Will work closely with GSL engineers and scientists to develop technical and business requirements that must be met in IT deployments.
- Evaluate new technologies and make recommendations to GSL architects and management.
- Will require occasional travel to attend conferences and meetings.
- Work with management to develop cost models to determine where applications should deploy - public or private.
- Generate monthly status reports.
- Generate architecture documentation.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
- BS Computer Science or equivalent experience
- 5+ years Linux Systems Administrator or Systems Engineer experience
- Extensive experience with scalable storage systems, Linux operating systems, backup systems, configuration management, process automation, and architecting complex IT infrastructure solutions.
- Experience collecting requirements and performing detailed systems analysis.
- Applicant must have experience with heterogeneous computing environments connected to the Internet including working knowledge of DNS, NFS, TCP/IP, and basic routing concepts.
- Computer programming skills, knowledge of scripting languages, expertise in computer operating systems, and computer security
- Must possess creativity, strong organizational skills, and planning skills.
- Experience/skills in setting priorities and managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- An active Secret clearance is required
