    Job Summary

    The individual in this position is responsible for analyzing computer applications used by multiple Sheriff's Office users, testing applications, training personnel in their use, and documenting those procedures. Systems used include mobile data systems and wireless networks. Assignments are based upon difficulties or new processes identified by Sheriff's Office personnel or Rockdale County information technology technicians, as well as the needs of law enforcement in the community.

    Essential Functions

    • Configure and modify computer hardware, peripherals, and software and maintain and document configurations and inventory. Computer hardware may involve mobile data computers, vehicle mounts, docking stations, GPS modem antennae, and mobile cameras.
    • Provide technical support to users by telephone or onsite, including problem resolution, network connectivity, and assistance with new or difficult features.
    • Manage technical projects, including providing vendors with appropriate data regarding communication ports, wireless configurations, and software applications; facilitating optimum network usage; and interfacing with Rockdale County and other (state, federal, etc.) technical personnel.
    • Work with Sheriff's Office personnel to assist in technological applications, both fixed and mobile (in-vehicle); troubleshoot both mobile and fixed applications for smooth operation and reduction in problems.
    • Monitor technological updates and plan for upgrades; test applications.
    • Prepare and maintain documentation of procedures.
    • Analyze computer problems to isolate program problems and take appropriate action to correct them
    • May assist with training personnel in software applications.
    • Assist with the integration of mobile/fixed applications and Rockdale County applications.
    • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality service.
    • Perform other duties as required.
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Knowledge of data communications security and privacy techniques.
    • Knowledge of forms design and report design.
    • Knowledge of computer programming languages.
    • Ability to analyze instructions to develop appropriate solutions to functional problems.
    • Ability to maintain computer systems and operating systems.
    • Ability to understand database organization access and retrieval techniques.
    • Ability to debug new and existing programs.
    • Knowledge of the principles, procedures, and design of computer systems and local area networks.
    • Knowledge of local device configuration.
    • Knowledge of wireless communication options in a mobile environment.
    • Knowledge of website design, development, and maintenance.
    • Skill in troubleshooting computer problems.
    • Skill in preparing computer evidence for forensic purposes.
    • Skill in protecting, preserving, and collecting electronic media for evidentiary purposes.

    Supervisory Controls:

    The Support Services Bureau Commander or his/her designee assigns work in terms of agency goals and objectives. Work is reviewed through observation, reports, and conversations about activities.

    Guidelines:

    Guidelines include applicable laws, ordinances, rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures related to public safety communications and law enforcement standards. These guidelines require sound judgment and interpretation in application.

    Personal Contacts:

    Contacts are typical with the public, co-workers, law enforcement officers, county employees, and employees from other governments and agencies.

    Purpose of Contacts:

    Contacts are typically to give and exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.

    Physical Demands:

    Most work is performed in a normal office environment. Approximately 60 percent of the work is performed at a desk. Daily work often involves moving between buildings and rooms. Occasional local driving is required to pick up or deliver material and/or to provide services. Activities include reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing/listening, and seeing/observing.

    Work Environment:

    Work is typically performed in an office environment. Work may be required in a variety of out-of-office and field settings; exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time. There is exposure at times to items that may be unpleasant to view or handle and exposure to weapons. The employee may work at any location in the county, travel on specific assignments, and attend out-of-county training and exercises.

    Supervisory and Management Responsibility:

    Exercises supervisor over the Sheriff's Office Systems Analyst.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Associate degree in computer science or related field.
    • Five years related experience in computer applications programming and analysis.
    • Five years of increasingly responsible experience in computer applications programming and analysis.
    • Valid State of Georgia driver's license.
    • May be required to demonstrate data entry skills through the completion of a skills test during the pre-employment process.
    • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
