    Overview

    AARP is the nation's largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to empowering people 50 and older to choose how they live as they age. AARP also produces the nation's largest circulation publications: AARP The Magazine and AARP Bulletin.

    The Public Relations Director leads enterprise strategy for managing, advancing, and protecting organization reputation and brand. Leads the development of advocacy-related public relations programs, strategies, and tactics to build relationships with key community and thought leaders and policymakers to advance organization initiatives. This person will develop and maintain enterprise strategy for Issue management and advance and protect the organization's brand. This person will set strategy and implement advocacy-related media relations efforts and campaigns tied to economic policy. They will also write media-facing documents that are often complex, technical or sensitive in nature. The Public Relations Director will also provide senior-level counsel and support executives and leadership in media interactions.

    Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains enterprise strategy for managing, advancing, and protecting the organization's reputation and brand.
  • Sets strategy and implements advocacy-related media relations efforts and campaigns
  • Helps develop partnerships to enhance the organization's reputation, positioning, engagement, and reach.
  • Writes media-facing documents that are often complex, nuanced, technical, or sensitive in nature.
  • Provides complex project management, including work with vendors.
  • Provides senior-level counsel and support to executives and leadership in all media interactions.
    Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 8+ years experience.
  • Experience with economic policy communications at the national level.
  • Background conceiving ideas to drive support for policy initiatives helping older adults with financial security.
  • Has significant and meaningful relationships with reporters that can be leveraged for media placement.
  • Prior work experience at a large advocacy organization or policy-focused environment.

    Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

    AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
