Located 45 minutes from the Nation's Capital, nestled in a history rich community of Southern Maryland, CSM was recognized in Diverse: Issues In Higher Education's 2020 list of "Top 100 Producers of Minority Associate Degrees" in 20 different categories. The data is the only national report on the ability of U.S. colleges and universities to award associate degrees to African-American, Asian American, Hispanic and Native American students. CSM's associate degree in Computer Science prepares students to transfer to a 4-year university to complete a bachelor's degree. CSM's Cybersecurity program is a 2-year, technical degree program and designated by the National Security Agency (NSA) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as a Center of Academic Excellence for Cybersecurity (CAE). In addition, CSM is a member of the USCYBERCOM Academic Engagement Network (AEN).

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) invites applications for a full-time Cybersecurity faculty position. This is an opportunity to use your knowledge, skills, and expertise to make a difference by helping to prepare students for entry-level positions in Cybersecurity and gain the necessary credentials to obtain an in-demand job. Our faculty serve a vital role in growing the STEM pipeline with more talented technical professionals to meet community, regional, and national workforce needs.

We are an innovative institution committed to student success and well known for our flexibility to meet student and regional community needs. We are seeking a forward-looking, collaborative educator, with a sense of humor, to join our Cybersecurity faculty. This position will require teaching introductory level courses such as Introduction to Computing, Computer Security, Introduction to Linux, as well as specialization areas, as needed.

Our faculty teach face-to-face, online, hybrid, and Hy-flex classes always focusing on student engagement and critical thinking. Cybersecurity faculty have the opportunity to teach online courses. CSM offers excellent health insurance benefits including a state retirement pension plan, wellness programs, and Code Green Fridays (early closure Fridays in the summer). In addition, CSM has paid time off for college closure during spring break and several major holidays, including Juneteenth.
We have highly skilled and creative faculty who incorporate the latest teaching approaches and technology into their instructional delivery. Our faculty work closely with students inside and outside of the classroom to help them maximize their success. Faculty serve as advisors to student clubs. Cybersecurity faculty are also highly engaged in STEM grant projects and scholarship programs, including initiatives sponsored by the National Science Foundation, in partnership with the public-school systems and local employers. Our faculty are instrumental in building partnership agreements with 4-year colleges.

The College of Southern Maryland is an ardent supporter of professional development and offers a robust professional development program for and investment in its faculty. Many of the Cybersecurity faculty participate in conferences such The League for Innovation in the Community College, 3CS Community College Cyber Summit, NICE Conference, Cyber Maryland, and SIGCSE Technical Symposium.

Additional Information:

Since this position requires in-person teaching and other in-person faculty duties, the candidate will be required to live within commuting distance of the Southern Maryland area.

The College of Southern Maryland is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Specific Duties and ResponsibilitiesCybersecurity faculty teach a wide range of first year and second year undergraduate classes. The successful faculty member will teach 15 credit hours per semester and 30 credit hours per academic year of day, evening, or virtual classes. Flexibility is required to work in this position as teaching assignments may vary from semester to semester. There may be an opportunity to teach classes in the summer also. Faculty may be assigned to teach on any campus or center where CSM offers classes. The hired candidate may be asked to teach Early College, for the positions where this may apply.

The faculty member hired in this position is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities to promote student-centered learning and success. CSM faculty deliver instruction to diverse student populations, with varied levels of learning and preparation, and they engage students in their learning through active and collaborative learning approaches.
In addition to instruction, faculty hold office hours, serve on various committees, and demonstrate a commitment to professional development through participating in local, state, regional, and national professional activities and organizations. Minimum Education and Training

REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related area. Candidate will be expected to obtain a master's degree in the teaching discipline within 2 years upon hiring.

PREFERRED:

One year of part-time instructional experience

Two years of professional experience in Cybersecurity or a closely related field.

Knowledge of networking, ethical hacking, and digital forensics

Ability to use Cybersecurity-specific tools to support and facilitate instructional delivery of courses
