Located 45 minutes from the Nation's Capital, nestled in a history rich community of Southern Maryland, The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) is twice recognized by the Aspen Institute as one of America's to 150 community colleges. Our faculty work closely with students inside and outside of the classroom and serve as advisors to student clubs and more. CSM faculty teach face-to-face, online, hybrid, and hy-flex classes focused on student engagement and critical thinking.

Faculty are expected to be knowledgeable of learning management systems in addition to face-to-face and innovative technology-based instructional delivery approaches. As such, we are seeking an innovative educator to join our business faculty.

We are recruiting for a Business faculty position at the Prince Frederick campus.

Business faculty are student-focused with advanced academic credentials and professional business experience. They support academic development of students who intend to transfer to a four-year institution or move directly into the workforce. Faculty have prior business and management experience that provides credence to the learning process and allows students to understand both theory and practice in the field. Business faculty emphasize application, collaboration, and leadership in connecting business concepts with applied learning.

Business faculty teach courses such as Introduction to Business, Business Strategy, Organizational Behavior, Management, Marketing, and Human Resource Management, to name a few. Faculty in the Business Department may serve as advisors to student clubs such as the Accounting and Business Club and the Kappa Beta Delta International Honor Society. Business faculty regularly network with local business leaders.

The College of Southern Maryland is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Specific Duties and ResponsibilitiesBusiness faculty teach a wide range of first year and second year undergraduate classes. The successful faculty member will teach 15 credit hours per semester and 30 credit hours per academic year of day and/or evening classes. Flexibility is required to work in this position as teaching assignments may vary from semester to semester. There may be an opportunity to teach classes in the summer. Faculty may be assigned to teach on any campus or center where CSM offers classes. Faculty may also be assigned to teach business courses for the CSM Early College program. Students taking Early College classes are dually enrolled in their local high school while also completing courses at CSM towards a certificate or degree.

The faculty member hired in this position is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities to promote student-centered learning and success. At a minimum, the related activities include instruction, holding office hours, serving on various committees, and demonstrating a commitment to professional development thorough participating in local, state, regional, and national professional activities and organizations.

DUTIES AND STANDARDS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Teach 30 credits of courses per contract year in the Business discipline.

Teach a range of courses that may include morning, day, evening, or online, in either 15-week or 7-week formats. Opportunities may exist to teach in summer.

Design assignments that incorporate students' program of study and connect to the Business discipline.

Engage students in their learning through active and collaborative learning approaches.

Meet with students outside of class to assist them with being successful college students.

Incorporate culturally relevant pedagogies into the teaching and learning process.

Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing.

Demonstrated ability to read and interpret information.

Demonstrated ability to deliver instruction to diverse student populations, with varied levels of learning and preparation.

Knowledge and use of student engagement strategies that support completion and student success goals.

Demonstrated experience providing feedback students can use to improve their performance.

Experience developing or using Open Education Resource (OER) materials as an instructional tool.

Maintain an ongoing program of professional development and participate in professional organizations, workshops, seminars, conferences, and activities.

Mastery of appropriate computer operation skills. Minimum Education and Training

Master's degree in Business or closely related field, with 18 graduate credit hours in business coursework.

PREFERRED: One year of instructional experience at the post-secondary level, that includes teaching courses, conducting and managing learning experiences, evaluating student achievement, providing input into curriculum development, policy and procedure formulation, and evaluation of program effectiveness, preferably at the community college level.

PREFERRED: Two years of professional experience in business or a closely related field.

Ability to use word processing, basic Internet applications, and basic database navigation.

Ability to use an educational enterprise, learning management system such as Desire2Learn (MyLearning) to support and facilitate instructional delivery.

Ability to teach in a variety of modalities, e.g., face-to-face, web, web-hybrid, and hy-flex formats.

Experience working with business or related training activities or academies
