Summary:


Under general supervision of the Manager Medical Imaging for the MRI Division and according to standard procedures operates an MRI unit and related equipment in order to produce MRI images of any designated anatomical area.

Collects and completes records on patient data and equipment operation. Provides assistance to patients and Radiologists. Solves minor equipment problems. Performs calibration tests and other quality control functions on equipment and notifies service personnel as required. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age specific needs of the geriatric adult and adolescent patient. Fosters patient and family centered care and nursing services in accordance with the Lifespan and The Miriam Hospital
- s mission vision values with consideration of the life span including all developmental stages as well as cultural patterns.


Responsibilities:

Prepares and calibrates the MRI unit for daily operation.

Selects proper technical factors on an individual patient basis.

Screens all patients and visitors prior to entry into the magnetic imaging area. Appraises physical condition of all patients to determine durability to withstand the procedure. Communicates to the patient the nature and type of examination to be performed. Verifies and/or obtains informed consent for examinations requiring consent.

Can operate and navigate all pertinent IS software related to job functions such as MAK Syngo PACS Lifelinks etc.

Records and maintains patient history from the patient
- s chart referring physician and/or by interviewing the patient.

Positions the patients for imaging to obtain satisfactory examinations and perform requested procedures.

Protects and immobilizes patient in accordance with prescribed safety standards.


Utilizes a wide variety of technical equipment including computers radio frequency generators gradient coils multi-format cameras film processors and other miscellaneous equipment to produce MRI images.

Performs complex imaging of cross-sectional sagittal coronal and obliquely generated MRI images.

Prepares and QA
- s images to be interpreted by the radiologist.

Ability to troubleshoot equipment problems.

Assists the radiologist in developing new procedures and protocols.

Assists in development of technical factors.

Participates in in-service educational programs for technical staff and other hospital support groups keeping current with required in-service.

Participates in clinical instruction and supervision of MRI students.

Maintains a thorough knowledge of the latest development in the MRI field.

Maintains knowledge of nursing procedures such as sterile techniques and infection control.

Observes established hospital and departmental policies as well as state local and federal regulations.

Maintains ethical conduct with all medical and non-medical personnel.

Maintains a working area in a clean and orderly condition.

Understands and practices principles of safety with regards to strong magnetic fields as those generated by MRI systems.

Performs other related duties as assigned and/or required.


Other information:

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Requires thorough knowledge of a specialized MRI technology.

Basic understanding of the operation of computer consoles.

  • MRI certification through the ARRT._New grads may obtain within 90 days of hire_
Interpersonal skills necessary to interface effectively with patients patients
- families departmental staff physicians and others.


Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.


EXPERIENCE:
Prior experience in Ultrasound CT Nuclear Medicine DSA cross-sectional anatomy and computer operations is preferred.

MRI experience preferred.

Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals physicians
- offices and ancillary healthcare enterprises.

Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact.


Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including use safety equipment and protective clothing.

Will have exposure to high magnetic fields.

Individual cannot have any physical condition that would be aggravated by magnetic fields.

Walks and stands intermittently throughout the day.

Subject to electrical and energy hazards.

May lift and position patients and lift supplies up to 50 pounds.
