Under direct supervision, the Apprentice Technician is responsible for the diagnosis, repair, reconditioning, overhaul and maintenance of customer and company heavy equipment and/or components.
Depending on location and assignment, this position will be responsible for some or all of the functions and duties listed below.
The Apprentice Technician will perform work at 150% of the standard productivity times expected of a Journey Technician.Working as one professional team delivering quality solutions to every customer.

Prepares accurate and complete service reports and turns them in on timePrepares inspection and appraisal reportsCorrectly charges work to appropriate work order segmentsSuccessfully completes all classes at the partner Community College for the region in which the Apprentice is sponsoredCommunicates effectively with Apprentice Coordinator, Service Writers, Shop Coordinators and Shop Managers to ensure problems, nature and status of repairs are understood and followed up onCommunicates effectively with College Instructors, Apprentice Coordinator, and Managers to ensure successful completion of the required college courseworkWorks in a cooperative manner with other team members to accomplish the goals of the shop, classroom, and companyCleans, repairs, reconditions, and maintains equipment and componentsPrepares, inspects, and ensures proper operation of machines prior to deliveryRemoves, disassembles, assembles, and installs components and partsDetermines reusability of parts in accordance with published Caterpillar guidelinesOrders replacement parts, ensuring that parts orders are correct and complete at the time of orderServices and maintains equipment sold and/or owned by the companyTests measures, and adjusts engine and machine systems and componentsDiagnoses and troubleshoots machine and engine malfunctions and failuresAnalyzes customer repair and maintenance requirementsKeeps up to date with developments in tooling, technologies and systemsUses safe working practices and follows all company safety requirementsMaintains a clean and organized work areaMakes recommendations as to repairs meeting warranty criteriaMakes parts replacement decisions assuring optimum economic reusabilityOther duties as assigned by ManagerRequired Education & Experience:
High School Diploma or GEDCan show an interest in working on cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc. An automotive or diesel course in High School, and/or a job as an entry level Technician preferred.
