    This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at La Jolla and remote.


    DESCRIPTION


    The UCSD Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences is composed of 67 faculty 15 clinical fellows, 5 Assistant Project Scientists, 10 Postdoctoral Scholars.


    The department is composed of 7 divisions:

    Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Hospitalist, Family Planning and Urogynecologic and Reconstructive Surgery.

    The department is currently ranked 3rd in the nation in NIH funding among ObGyn departments.

    The Grant Writer will focus on supporting grant writing and manuscript preparations for the Department of OB/GYN and Reproductive Sciences.

    The incumbent is responsible for supporting scientific writing for grant applications (to federal funding agencies, non-profit funding organizations, and foundations, as well as university intramural opportunities).

    They will participate in writing, editing, proof-reading, and formatting grant proposals for peer review.

    The Grant Writer serves in a key role to provide advising, writing, and a full range of substantive editing on scientific research proposals, manuscripts, and other written products.

    The incumbent will contribute to the success of the research enterprise by helping faculty write successful new and continuation research grant applications to Federal and other funding agencies.

    These proposals will include both domestic and international multi-disciplinary, multi-site projects.

    The incumbent will support the advancement of the PI's research portfolio by helping edit and prepare their scientific manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals.

    The incumbent will provide both pre-award and post-award support; reviewing requests for proposals, program announcements, and award document terms and conditions to ensure compliance and alignment.

    Knowledge of biological sciences will be applied to translate medical, scientific, and technical language into easily understood concepts.

    Project Management skills will be utilized to ensure grant documents are complete, adhere to funding agency guidelines, and are submitted on time.

    Using extensive data analysis, interpretation, and presentation skills the incumbent will provide feedback on the most effective ways to display data and supporting graphics for grant documentation.

    Tasks will include collecting and maintaining required records for grant-supported programs/centers and performance metrics to evaluate and measure productivity/success.

    The incumbent will work collaboratively, actively cooperating, and supporting the grant development team to ensure timely submissions of successful funding applications.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    Nine years of related experience, education/training, OR a Master's degree in related area plus two years of related experience/training

    Academic background and experience in selected area of research required. .

    Advanced background in life sciences, social science, computer science, public health, biostatistics, or other applicable academic field as evidenced by an advanced degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of experience and education.

    Specialized knowledge of OB/GYN and Reproductive Science research is preferred.

    Strong oral and written communication skills.

    In-depth experience writing about science for both technical reviewers and the public as well as writing science proposals for government agencies including the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

    Experience working in a scientific research environment. Understanding of the role of research and grant funding in a major research university.

    Proven ability to write and submit successful grant applications, particularly large collaborative science grants.

    Proven program planning and management of projects. Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple projects.

    Ability to complete work and meet established deadlines in an accurate and timely manner, and to manage short and competing deadlines.

    Experience with planning and leadership of operational and research/development initiatives.

    Demonstrated management skills with the ability to maintain focus and to operate in an organized and effective manner in an environment that may have rapidly shifting demands and priorities.

    Strong ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills. Advanced skills analyzing and presenting data.

    Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results.

    Strong ability to work collaboratively with internal and external peers, managers and teams.

    Demonstrated attention to detail to ensure proper and consistent editorial formatting of large grant submissions.

    Self-starter with the ability to work independently and deliver in a timely fashion.

    Demonstrated experience in scientific writing.

    Thorough knowledge and ability to apply all relevant Federal, state, and university regulations, policies, and federal guidance documents.

    Proven experience in keeping up with new requirements for grant proposals, such as formats and scientific components, of federal, state and private granting agencies.


    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    Ph.
    D. in biological sciences is strongly preferred.

    Experience with grant management tracking systems and databases, experience utilizing web portals for grant submission to various agencies.


    Knowledge of UC policies and procedures relating to research, and research facilities, as well as knowledge of campus structure, research programs, databases, and systems.

    Experience in oncology-related scientific writing.

    Pay Transparency Act

    Annual Full Pay Range:
    $82,500 - $151,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

    Hourly Equivalent:
    $ $72.56


    Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.

    The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.

    The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).

    Federal, state, or local public health directives may impose additional requirements.
