    Position Summary

    The Community Outreach Coordinator is responsible for creating, planning, organizing community outreach programs/events with staff and volunteer for youth, families, seniors, and veterans in the Coachella Valley under the mission and ministry of The Salvation Army Cathedral City- Davis Center. The primary function of the Community Outreach Coordinator is to develop, implement and expand community outreach programs for youth development through our After School Program as well as our adult education program through our seniors and veterans' programs. Overall, the position involves creating various community outreach programs/events for youth, families, senior and veterans.

    Essential Functions

    • Coordinate and lead designated Community Outreach programs and activities as assigned by the Corps Officers.
    • Support and assist in recruitment and collaboration with existing programs (e.g. Afterschool Program and Veterans Programs and other new community outreach).
    • Work in conjunction with Corps Officers and ministry leaders in implementing strategies for outreach for Youth, Family, Seniors and Veterans.
    • Manage and Coordinate the After School program as outreach to the youth and families:
    • Outreach to Youth and Family includes:
      • Designing and developing a balanced program of enrichment activities in the following core program component areas: Literacy, Arts & Craft, Homework, & Tutorials, Recreation, Prevention and Basic Life Skills.
      • Training and supervising program staff and volunteers to implement program activities.
      • Delegate program activity responsibilities to staff and volunteers.
      • Develop and post a weekly schedule of each day's activities, two months in advance. Create calendar of events on a quarterly basis.
      • Promote and recruit students from the school in the community to maintain and expand program attendance.
      • Administer an annual program evaluation questionnaire to be completed by students, volunteers, parents, community professionals. Periodically evaluate all program staff and volunteers.
      • Work scheduled hours which may include special programming. For any variance in the schedule, prior approval form supervisor must be obtained.
      • Provide regular communication with parents regarding program schedule, activity calendars, parent/student night, etc.
      • Encourage to provide opportunities for parents to become involved with program activities.
      • Ensure that students are provided with daily nutrition mid-afternoon snack. Represent The Salvation Army in various community collaborative meetings as appropriate.
    • Assist with Veterans community programs.
      • Veterans Community Programs (VEAP) Veterans Easy Access Programs)
      • Support the ministry of Mr. Willards Closet
      • Assist in reviewing and drafting the VEAP Readback Newsletter
    • Support and attend other Annual Community Outreach Events such as:
      • Volunteer Recognition Event
      • Fundraising Events (Kettle Kickoff and Others)
      • Camp Scholarships
      • Back to School Backpacks & School Supplies
    • Coordinate the recruitment of volunteers to serve as mentors, activity leaders, recreation leaders, drivers, and other positions as deemed appropriate. Including senior volunteers. Maintain awareness of volunteer resources in the community. Provide screening of all volunteers for appropriateness and qualifications to work with youth. Supervise all volunteers and contract staff in the program.
    • Maintain detailed client files, statistics, attendance records, staff and volunteer evaluations, activity schedules, building use schedules, equipment inventory and program supplies (order and maintain supplies)
    • Coordinate with the Corps Officers an ongoing Christian program opportunities offered by The Salvation Army.
    • Network with other community groups, businesses, and organizations for the purpose of connecting them to the Corps.
    • Cultivate relationships with families and individuals who participate in social service, corps programs for the purposes of connecting them to programs and services that they may not yet be a part of.
    • Recruiting volunteers for seasonal and year-round opportunities.
    • Must maintain daily statistics and other statistics as assigned.
    • Other duties as assigned by Corps Officer(s).

    Working Conditions

    Ability to walk, stand, bend squat climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to be able to lift up to 50lbs. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as file cabinet drawers and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High School Diploma/GED.
    • Have two to three years' experience in youth work, preferred.
    • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field, highly desired, or two years of related experience preferred.
    • Computer Skills, basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
    • Working knowledge of content management systems and the ability to post updates and changes to existing webpage.
    • Time management skills including ability to manage multiple events in an efficient and resourceful manner and ability to organize, prioritize, and analyze essentials and implement action for desired results.
    • Must maintain certification in The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program annually.
    • Must maintain First Aid/CPR Certification.
    • Must possess a valid state of CA-DL issued.
    • Must have a philosophy of education and child development which is consistent with that of The Salvation Army Davis Center.
    • Must have the ability to work with children, parents, and staff in capacity of leadership, coaching, and education .

    Qualifications
    Education Bachelors (preferred)
    High School or Equivalent (required)
    Experience 2 years: Minimum Experience In Related Field. (preferred)
    2 - 3 years: Minimum Experience In Youth Work. (preferred)
    Licenses & Certifications Motor Vehicle Check (required)
    Driver's License (required)
