POSITION OVERVIEW
This position is responsible for advocacy and policy strategies including trainings, community participatory assessments, data gathering, policy analysis and fostering communication between key stakeholders to improve the health conditions of underserved communities to promote healthy lifestyles through Nutrition and Tobacco Prevention Education.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Community Engagement
- Coordinate policy and advocacy education to address three behaviors: poor nutrition, lack of physical activity and tobacco product use
- Engage community through outreach efforts including, but not limited to: community events, trainings, classes, media, etc.
- Support communication between elected officials, government administrators and key community stakeholders to create a shared vision and implement strategies that will inform, and mobilize efforts to advance healthy living behaviors to reduce four chronic diseases: Heart Disease/Stroke, Cancer, Type 2 Diabetes and Respiratory Conditions
Administrative
- Collaborate with the County Public Health Department to achieve Healthy CV goals and objectives
- Create evaluation plans, collect data (primary and secondary) to assess project progress
- Attend agencyapproved workshops, conferences and meetings related to this position
- Identify and recruit potential partners to participate in policy campaign planning/implementation, observation data collection and educational sessions/trainings
- Conduct Interviews with decision makers and community leaders
- Attend all agency training sessions and staff meetings
- Facilitate Training is topic areas including, but not limited to: preparing healthy meals, meal planning, food label reading and other approved nutrition and physical activity topics/interests.
- Represent RAP at health fairs and events to promote organizational objectives

- Follow up on complaints, questions, and concerns; respond to internal/external customer needs in a friendly, timely and efficient manner

- Comply with established safe work practices and attend to all safetyrelated training provided or made available by the RAP Foundation
- Other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from fouryear college or university; or one to two years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- A minimum of 23 years of community organization experience
- Experience may be substituted with Graduate Level Degree in related field
Required Technical / Other Skills and Abilities
- Required: Bilingual Spanish/English
- Required: Ability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Community organizing skills, such as listening to people from different backgrounds, being able to find common ground in community needs and build capacity of residents to organize and advocate for the health of their communities.
- Able to communicate clearly and diplomatically, both in person and in writing.
- Able to communicate well with community members of diverse racial/ethnic backgrounds and key stakeholders such as elected officials, nonprofit leaders, government representatives, health care administrators, religious and community leaders, to mention a few
- Selfmotivated, proactive, resourceful, and interested in learning
- Good team member and able to foster collaboration with staff and volunteers
- Knowledgeable or interested in learning how to engage community members in health education and advocacy
- Valid California Driver's License is required
- Must maintain insurance on vehicle
