    Job Summary The Professional Advisor II is responsible for promoting a positive and successful learning experience for students to increase student retention, success, and completion. The Professional Advisor II will work with the student to ensure they are in an appropriate major for their career goals, assist with necessary major changes, and career assessments. The Professional Advisor II will facilitate advising and registration for their assigned student populations, ensure students are connected with student support services and activities, disseminate program information, and track student performance. The work of the Professional Advisor II involves working closely with stakeholders across campus to build collaborative relationships, remain current in the university academic policies and program maps by attendance in training ́s, advising department meetings, and academic department meetings. Professional Advisor II is reserved for advisors who have demonstrated the necessary expertise to address more complicated advising caseloads and curriculum. This position will serve and work with students that have identified with a special population. This position requires some evening, weekend, and extended hour work at peak times during the academic season. Responsibilities The Professional Advisor II is responsible for ongoing advisement and mentoring of new and continuing students at ASU. Duties include, but are not limited to: Serve as the first point of contact for questions and/or concerns for assigned students Monitors and tracks the retention, progression, and graduation of all students within assigned population through the use of advising software and technologies Participate in preregistration and other intervention strategies to proactively connect with students to ensure registration in a timely manner Serve as an advocate for students in areas relating to success, pace, and graduation Advise students with regards to their educational, career, personal, and social development needs Support students in understanding and meeting academic requirements and deadlines, completing financial aid, and applying for on-campus housing Assist students in course registration processes such as overloads, substitutions, overrides, etc. and submit appropriate documentations to the director of academic advising for processing May conduct information session for academic departments Correspond with the Retention coordinator to respond to Early Alerts and consult with faculty, students, and campus resources to resolve specific student issues Remain informed of universities policies, processes, and activities in order to better and more accurately connect students with appropriate resources and campus personnel Remain informed of university programs and program course maps, as well as BOR policies, to ensure accurate advising and course registration by attending regularly scheduled department meetings and advising center meetings Facilitate programs that help students explore career and post-bachelor's degree options Provides and/or oversees graduation checkouts and audits for their academic college Teaches or co-teaches ASU 1101 First Year Experience Represents the academic advising unit on college and university committees Utilize to it's fullest potential the technologies, software, and processes made available by the university for academic advising and student success and participate in ongoing and consistent training to remain current in these practices Perform other job-related duties as assigned Required Qualifications Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in related fieldDemonstrated commitment to academic advising as a key component of student success, as evidenced by prior experiences, letters of recommendation, and interview(s)Proposed Salary

    Salary range is from $37,000 and $44,000

    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Proficient in the use of desk top technologies such as Microsoft applications and comfortable learning and adapting to new technologies Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written Must be student-centric and customer service oriented Ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions Ability to work both collaboratively and independently. Ability to encourage and empower students to make informed decisions. Sensitivity to needs of a varied student population Ability to recognize student needs and properly align needs with available campus resources Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to priority and organize work assignments. Ability to analyze data in various forms to make recommendations and propose strategies. Knowledge of career trends in the major. Knowledge of department rules and regulations. Have a clear understanding of how pre-professional/licensure exams, clinical experiences, internships, independent studies, and capstones are integrated into a student's program map.
