Must relate well to people and be able to encourage and enforce good work habits and time efficiency. The manager must be willing and able to perform all jobs in The Thrift Store and Warehouse
Must be able to work with the Corps Officer(s) on time scheduling, employee problems, hiring and firing of employees, merchandising, goals, productivity, and reporting of problems.
Microsoft software (primarily Outlook, Word to correctly create basic documents (notes, memos, emails) and reports
Meeting daily sales goals must be an ongoing daily goal and top priority
Be responsible for the general operation of the Thrift Store and Warehouse
Conduct or arrange for the training of all new employee and volunteers
Be responsible for the morale, safety, and productivity of all Thrift Store and Warehouse employees. Carry through with all responsibilities and duties given by the Corps Officer(s)
Complete employee work schedules according to policy and emailed to Corps Officer(s) by the established day. Give employees daily & weekly duty assignments
Ensure employee timecards are completed correctly and that time sheets are submitted to payroll
Paperwork, including Daily Store Totals sheets, is submitted to the Corps Accounting Clerk in a timely manner
Confidentiality is an absolute requirement. Confidentiality conditions are further explained under the working conditions section
Be responsible for interviewing, hiring, evaluations, discipline, and terminations when it is necessary
Documentation of employees work performance
Be responsible for reporting all accidents to the Corps Officer(s). Ensure prompt and accurate completion and submission of the appropriate accident forms
Be responsible for seeing that all equipment and store building maintenance is kept in good working order
Be responsible for the accurate handling of all moneys; (cash register money, income, bank deposits, petty cash, donations etc.) ensuring that there are 2 employees counting each register till and Daily Totals. Door always locked on the safe and the door of the office that contains the location of the safe
Overlook volunteers, program workers, and community service workers.
Be responsible for advertising sales or promotions, advertising available job positions, and creating community coupons
Choose what type of sale to have in the AM hours of each day. Sales are not to be discussed with customers or clerks prior to the sale as this would hurt our daily income. Responsible for making sure sale signs are put in sale area of the store, store windows, and sidewalk swing board sign prior to store opening
Responsible for making sure there are bags stuffers being used at the register area, such as bible tracks and information helps
Follow safe and proper procedures when opening and closing the store. Ensure building is locked and alarm is set.
Preparing the cash register tills for the day and overseeing the preparation of the store of the days business
Straighten racks, bins, and shelves
Sweeping, mopping, cleaning of the store
See that the store is ready and open for business on time
Keep merchandise stocked; shelves, bins, racks, and floor space filled with merchandise as it is sold throughout the business day
Assist customers with purchases or donations as needed
Be responsible for maintaining good donor, customer, and employee relations. Keep a positive attitude in check. It is of utmost importance that the store manager be a good representative of The Salvation Army. You must also be very careful with what is said to donors, customers, and employees. Keep conversations positive and gracious. Our words influence others.
Keep dressing rooms clean and free of excess merchandise
Rotate stock according to operating procedures
Work the cash register if needed
Cash out till and complete required paperwork
Make sure that daily bank deposits are completed and taken to the bank at the end of every business day. The only moneys left overnight in the safe are the petty cash boxes and two register drawers. Accurately complete the required paperwork
Ensure that store and warehouse is secured and that all lights are turned off.
Be responsible for giving receipts for donations brought into the store * warehouse and that they are accurately written and kept in file
See that all calls for donation pickups are answered promptly and that they are scheduled for pickup according to procedure
Ensure items donated are appropriately handled and that donated items are not pilfered
Be responsible that merchandise is effectively moved from donations to the sales floor
Be responsible for knowing competitive sale and prices of local Thrift Store and Antique Shops
Ensure that business phone be answered promptly
Create daily in store sales promotions. Make sure sale signs are placed in appropriate areas within the store, the window, and sidewalk board.
Price all collectibles, antiques, and jewelry
Make sure that the music that is being played in the Thrift Store for customers to hear is uplifting Christian music
