    **Qualifications:**

    **Education ** High School diploma required or GED equivalency required

    **Experience:** One to three years of similar job experience preferred

    **Scope of Position:**

    The reason for this position is to sell, display and be attentive to the sales floor; and to assist customers and clients without discrimination. This position will also consist of putting away merchandise, keeping the store neat, clean, and free of safety hazards. This position will also proficiently operate the cash register and answer the phone. You may be required to start your workday as early as 8AM and/or work as late as 6:30PM. You will also be expected to work Saturdays. You may be called upon periodically to assist filling in for your co-workers if they happen to call in sick or if an emergency comes up.

    **Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**

    Abide by The Salvation Army Employee Handbook and all set instore policies & memos.

    Put away in-coming books, bric-a-brac, & clothing. Stock shelves and clothing racks with fresh merchandise. This would also include checking the staging area for new merchandise that is in or on carts & racks. When bringing out the merchandise, if there is room on the tables, place it onto the tables for customers to go thru. When the tables are empty or looking sparse, please condense the partial empty boxes together and pull up the full boxes that may still be on the carts and put it onto the table. Place empty boxes in staging area.

    Straighten clothing racks, looking under racks for fallen clothing/merchandise & empty hangers.

    Keep bric-a-brac/furniture area picked up and well organized. Pick up merchandise throughout the day that customers may have left on the furniture or other areas of the store.

    When furniture is sold ask for it to be removed from the sales floor by a warehouse production assistant and have it replaced with a new piece. If the item is beyond your capacity to lift or maneuver by yourself please ask a warehouse production assistant to help you move it for your safety and well-being.

    If your assigned area of the store is completely picked up & organized, please ask your crew leader where they would like you to help in the other areas of the store.

    Assist donors with donations and appropriately fill out receipts.

    Answer the telephone as needed and relay/give messages to manager in a timely manner.

    Working the register, counting the money accurately, giving the correct amount of change, and assist with nightly paperwork. Be in continual watch of the register area to see if customers need to be rung up. If you are called to the register area for help, you will need to drop what you are doing and respond quickly. When your duties are completed at the register and if there are no customers to be checked out, please go back out on the sales floor and continue with your daily duties.

    Assist in all cleanups throughout the store.

    Rotate stock when directed to do so. Rotating stock is considered pulling appropriate color of tagged items for weekly pulling as directed by your Crew Leader. Pulling should start on Thursday and be completed by the end of Friday.

    Assist when necessary with completing Family Service Department Vouchers as pleasant and courteous as possible without discrimination, while keeping in mind that they are as important as a paying customer.

    Closely watch customers to help avoid theft. All employees are to closely watch and monitor customers to help detour theft from happening. Immediately report any form of theft to Operations Manager. Please remember to greet customers as they come thru our doors & as you see them on the sales floor. Acknowledging them will help to assist in cutting down on theft.

    Any other duties as may be assigned by your Crew Leader, Operations Manager, or Corps Officer.

    Assist in maintaining good donor, customer, and co-worker relations. Keep a good attitude in check. It is of utmost importance that clerks be a good representation of The Salvation Army. You must also be very careful with what is said to donors, customers, and to co-workers. Keep conversation positive and gracious. Our words have an effect on others. We prefer that it be a positive one. In other words, there should be absolutely no negative conversation at the register or out on the sales floor.

    **Working Conditions:**

    Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs, stretch, stoop, bend, and stand for long periods of time. You are required to seek assistance for items that are beyond your ability to lift by yourself. You will be required to keep the premises, inside and out, as safe as possible. This will assist you in keeping a safe environment as you work. This position requires a high level of self-motivation. It is expected that you manage your time well, work as a team, and keep busy.
