QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
The qualifications, knowledge, and skill requirements for this position include:

  • Proven work experience in cashiering; retail and/or food service experience is preferred;
  • Proven computer experience in Microsoft Office to include data input experience;
  • Strong business aptitude;
  • Excellent verbal and written skills;
  • Excellent customer service skills;
  • Basic clerical skills to include typing, word processing, and filing;
  • Good organizational and basic accounting skills;
  • Ability to be detail oriented and perform accurately under pressure;
  • Ability to work independently as well as with others and be selfmotivated;
  • Professional demeanor;
  • As this position requires direct contact witl1 college administrators, faculty, staff, general public and students on a regular basis, the ability to deal with all types of individuals is extremely important.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential job functions and responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Providing excellent internal and external customer service;
  • Completing all types of customer transactions at POS register while maintaining accuracy;
  • Restocking merchandise as needed;
  • Maintaining cleanliness and organization of gift shop and Planetarium;
  • Completing filing and other basic clerical responsibilities;
  • Completing data entry as assigned;
  • Working nights and weekends as required;
  • Supporting all activities of the Hallstrom Planetarium.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The specific duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing excellent customer service to customers in the gift shop, or on phone;
  • Greet customers promptly and professionally;
  • Inventory control of merchandise to be monitored and accounted for as assigned;
  • Handling customer transactions at POS register in efficient manner as assigned;
  • Maintaining a high level of accuracy regarding transactions of cash, checks, credit cards and accounts;
  • Performing well under high pressure/ stress situations, especially before and after Planetarium shows;
  • Keeping gift shop appearance to high standards of cleanliness and organization;
  • Processing receipts and other data into the computer system;
  • Closing cashier sessions and balancing drawers as assigned;
  • Balancing and entering deposits as assigned;
  • Completing filing and other basic clerical responsibilities;
  • Completing other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Hallstrom Planetarium Director.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds.

It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary.

IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
