    Description

    Associate Teacher

    POSITION

    De Marillac Academy's Associate Teacher Program welcomes diverse applicants, including non-certified teachers, recent college graduates, professionals from non-teaching backgrounds, and individuals exploring a career in education. As Associate Teachers at De Marillac Academy, you will gain foundational skills necessary for an education career, such as classroom management, curriculum design, communication with families and colleagues, and restorative justice techniques. You will be fully integrated into the DMA faculty, receiving mentorship, and learning from experienced peers while embracing educational methodologies rooted in Catholic Social Teaching, Social-Emotional Learning, and California Common Core standards. Additionally, Associate Teachers will receive both personal and financial support to obtain their teaching credential.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Planning and Teaching

    • Implement various teaching strategies to create an engaging classroom environment alongside the lead teacher;
    • Provide differentiated instruction to ensure student academic success;
    • Organize and execute classroom community activities;
    • Act as a primary substitute and prefect;
    • Plan, instruct, and manage grades for Physical Education.

    Academic Resource Program

    • Support the lead teacher in meeting Academic Resource Program (ARP) accommodations for students by monitoring and evaluating student progress towards their goals.

    Classroom Management

    • Maintain effective classroom management and cultivate a conducive learning atmosphere;
    • Monitor students' socio-emotional well-being and collaborate with students, families, and administration to foster healthy relationships and emotional regulation;
    • Apply restorative justice practices to uphold school behavior expectations.

    Meetings and Events

    • Engage in school activities including meetings, coaching sessions, events, Masses, professional development, and faith formation opportunities.

    Working Conditions & Physical/Other Requirements

    • Supervise students during breaks, lunches, community time, and activities as needed;
    • Assist with emergency teaching requirements;
    • Attend school events and activities;
    • Adhere to duties assigned by the Principal or appropriate administrator;
    • Work some long hours at the computer;
    • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 products, Google Suite, and Google Classroom;
    • Availability for evening and weekend responsibilities;
    • Able to lift 30 pounds.

    THE ORGANIZATION

    De Marillac Academy is committed to honoring and nurturing the unique abilities of our students to help them realize their potential, find their voice, and contribute to the community. Rooted in family collaboration, our tuition-free Catholic education from fourth to eighth grade serves the Tenderloin neighborhood and beyond. Through our Graduate Support Program, we offer ongoing educational, personal, and financial assistance to our students and families.

    Established in 2001, De Marillac Academy began as an independent Lasallian Vincentian Catholic school and has grown to serve 110 fourth to eighth-grade students, support 300 alumni through the Graduate Support Program, and work with 277 school families.

    OUR MISSION

    Driven by the unique strengths of our students and graduates, De Marillac Academy in San Francisco's Tenderloin district fosters academic, spiritual, and social-emotional growth through a Lasallian Vincentian Catholic education. Alongside families and the community, we guide students from middle school through early adulthood, empowering them to develop a strong identity, purpose, and dedication to serving others.

    COMPENSATION

    Salary range of $54,000 - $66,000 based on qualifications and experience, including a comprehensive benefits package. Additional perks involve year-long professional development, financial aid for further education, spiritual guidance, and retreat days.

    START DATE

    Expected start date: August 2, 2024.
