Traffic Deputy Commissioner

  • Salary range: $170, $180,000.00The Assistant Commissioner will have a particular focus on the development of new contracts with major IT components as well as the internal business processes that support contract work for signals and the traffic management center, street lighting, automated enforcement as well as across the division. The Assistant Commissioner will review recurring contracts periodically with an eye toward innovation and modernizing workflows. A strong understanding of IT systems and IT projects is preferred. Knowledge and experience in engineering, transportation and public sector procurement are all strongly preferred.

Minimum Qualifications1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and five years of full-time paid experience dealing with traffic-related functions in a governmental agency, business organization, civic organization or educational institution including one year in an administrative, consultative, managerial or executive capacity; or

Preferred SkillsExcellent verbal and written communication skills. Proven ability to work collaboratively with staff from different professional backgrounds. Demonstrated familiarity with City procurement process. Experience with IT project development and management. Experience with contract development. Experience researching technology and procurement solutions, developing recommendations, presenting, and advancing with executive leaders. Advanced degrees in engineering and/or information technology/computer science are preferred.

Leadership and supervisory experience preferred.- Public Service Loan Forgiveness Residency RequirementNew York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.

However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
